About Zey Asti:
I am a lover of all people: infants, toddlers, children, teenagers, young adults and old adults. I appreciate the role of the family in the care of my patient, and I believe in therapy that is relevant and functional towards the culture, context, daily living, and personality presented to me. I have learned to work within my boundaries, but also to depend upon my team. I am motivated to learn, to ask questions, to resolve challenges, to improve systems, and to have my mistakes corrected. I'm also extremely diligent, and enjoy learning to speak the language of those I work with. I’m interested in developing sustainable, and resourceful therapy projects & infrastructure for my department. In addition, I have developed a special interest for working with patients experiencing dysphagia and neurological sequelae. Currently, I am seeking to work within a hospital setting and pursue further studies.
Experience
I have worked in the hospital, schools, private practice and community and online setting as a speech and language therapist in rural and urban South Africa as well as in London. I have worked with a culturally, linguistically and clinically diverse clientele with adult, pediatric and neurodiverse populations. In addition, I have gained experience through clinical supervision, volunteering and shadowing opportunities in different academic hospitals in South Africa. I'm currently seeking to build skills as a medical speech and language therapist in the hospital setting and pursue further studies related to dysphagia or neurogenic communication and swallowing conditions.
Education
I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2019 with a BSc. hons degree.
