I have been working in the aquaculture industry for the past 19 years of which five of those years, I have been in a management position as a Hatchery Superintendent.

My job description as a hatchery superintendent is the primary production of abalone from brood stock management, larval rearing, settlement production, weaning production, post weaning production, Data Capturing and Analysis, spat harvesting as well as handling and stocking densities.

Part of my job description is to manage staff and training the staff, as well as the monitoring and controlling of physical environmental conditions. Daily routine checks on machinery and pumps that supply water to the production area, I do production data capture and analysis which is also part of my duties.

Conduct safety checks daily, ensure good water quality,
Daily routine inspection of Filtering of water, Measuring Temperature and dissolved oxygen in water.
Part of my job is also to check chlorine levels in water by testing daily.
Taking water samples daily and monitoring phytoplankton.

Apart from my operational duties as hatchery superintendent and as biosecurity coordinator, I also design my own Filtering systems, called a UV flow-through system. Filter water through Cartridge filters that are used in Reverse Osmosis Systems.

My tertiary background is that I have obtained my certificate in Aquaculture Production Management at the University of Stellenbosch, and I completed a fish and seafood processing learnership.
