Sphesihle Phungula

A dedicated and talented English teacher with 5 years’ experience teaching across the South African curriculum (CAPS). Towards the end of 2022 I relocated to Taiwan where I currently teach English under the project called ‘Bilingual Education.’ I have a proven ability to create a positive and imaginative learning environment for students. I am highly skilled in implementing specific individual assessments, lesson planning and in a variety of learning methodologies. I love working with children and contributing to their development.

Accomplishments:

• I created the ‘Reinventing School Challenge’ at school to encourage discussion, empower youth, other teachers and communities to design and facilitate change locally. Our program focused on things such as redesigning classrooms, creating a school garden, creating an open and shared learning space, changing the way students participate in decision making and more.

• Organizer of the ‘Spelling Bee’ competition for grades 8&9. This competition resulted in children gaining competency over vocabulary and allowed them to excel in reading and writing.

• Collaborated with a local library to introduce young students to the concept of reading and ‘real’ books.

• Show and tell Fridays – I would ask students to bring in something from home ( food , clothing, etc) that represents their culture. Then, have them present the item to the class and explain why it’s important to them.
