Experience
I write this cover letter to apply for the Job opportunity. I am a PhD student at the University of Cape Town, Specialising in education in the School of education. It is due to my exposure to curriculum and pedagogical theories, debates, and research that I have taken interest to apply for the Intermediate phase educator vacancy, an opportunity I came across in Indeed webpage, a careers network web page that I had visited.
During my completion of my Bachelor of Education degree (primary degree), at the University of Fort Hare, I have incurred experience in designing lesson plans, classroom management and inclusive pedagogy that meet the needs of learners, especially learners in primary and secondary schools, between the ages of 8 years & 16 years. I was imparted with knowledge of inclusive education, its theory, methodology and practicality. Further, one of the requirements needed to complete the undergraduate degree, is school practice/school experience, which incorporates, devising lesson plans, creating teaching, and learning resources for learners and using 21st methods of teaching and learning rounded on inclusive education. I have experience in assessment and classroom management.
At UCT, in my honour’s degree, I specialised in applied linguistics curriculum studies, in which I was exposed to how knowledge is codified, taught, and assessed. The course focused on issues of curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment directly, through theory and practice in content subjects.
During the year 2020, I was an intern for an organisation named Education Above All, in partnership with IFERB (Internet free based education resources), an organisation based in Doha, capital city of Qatar. My responsibilities were to design, create and develop cost effective resources that learners can used for learning. In addition, I participated as a leader, tutor, and general assistant innumerable institutions such as Literacy Association of South Africa (LITASA), Funda Wande and the University of Cape Town School of Education which aims to promote and address literacy challenges whilst redefining bi/multilingual education and its methodical approach to teaching and learning. Recently I was a teaching practice supervisor. I Supervised PGCE students pertaining to their planning and delivery/implementation of pedagogy in the classroom. I evaluated how student teachers devised their lesson plans in correspondence with CAPs and monitored their daily reflective journals. My role as a supervisor was to develop the required skills and competencies in the student-teacher to enable him/her to function effectively in the basic education classroom. My duties were to a model in all ramifications,
utilize methods and strategies that put the student teachers and their pupils at the centre of learning, exhibit
knowledgeable in the subject matter and be versatile in the facilitation of learning, be
a prudent manager of time and resources
Further, I am particularly interested in exploring, exposing, and challenging the impediments, be it content based or environmentally based impediments, that inhibit learners to successfully learn in schools. Not only I am interested in identifying problems that challenge student success, but I am also passionately interested in unearthing solutions that are deemed feasible to bring equal opportunities to learn.
Given this opportunity, I will learn and benefit from skills and knowledge begotten through exposure to teaching and learning, whilst adding value to initiatives and tasks prescribed.
Yours truly.
