I obtained my Pharmacy degree in 2021 and is registered at the South African Pharmacy council as a community service Pharmacist. I have one year experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and one year experience as a responsible pharmacist within a primary healthcare facility. Experience

Johnson & Johnson Pty (Ltd) (241 Main Rd, Retreat, Cape Town, 7945).
I worked in the manufacturing of solids, liquids as well as packaging and warehouse departments. While I was in these departments, I obtained the following skills and qualities:
A) Monitor adherence to guidelines, procedures and document controls
I was taught the importance of documentation and adhering to procedures and regulations on the production floor to ensure the product is of the highest quality.
B) Plan and prioritize production activities
During my internship I assisted a production pharmacist in scheduling the production plan for a 4-week period. I assisted the production team in following this plan and adjust the plan as needed to ensure targets are still met.
C) Verify Schedule 6 medication
I verified schedule 6 materials while observing and verifying the dispensing of the material. While receiving Schedule 6 material I discovered an anomaly that I escalated investigated the anomalies.
D) Sign-off on environmental and equipment cleanliness and equipment readiness
During my internship year I inspected and signed off on environmental and equipment cleanliness. I also inspected and verified the packaging lines during line closure and opening. I verified the performance of equipment against predetermined company standards. I assisted production operators in calibrating of equipment. I was also responsible for ensuring that all relevant samples are taken and submitted to the Quality Assurance department during production and on the packaging line. I also escalated and reported when deviations occur during the manufacturing process or packaging run. I checked quantity, expiry date and correctness of all materials used during production and the packaging process. I also signed and audited departmental (including environment and equipment) logbooks. I compiled a document for each department containing all areas in the relevant department that required maintenance, this document was later used to prioritize maintenance projects within the departments.
E) Documentation
I was trained on the completion of Batch Manufacturing and packaging records, deviation forms and declaration forms. I verified and performed calculations within the Batch records. I reviewed and investigated anomalies specifically related to the reconciliation sheet of both manufacturing and packaging batch records. I also reviewed these documentations within the Quality Assurance department to correct and/or investigate anomalies. I assisted the Pharmacist with investigating and resolving anomalies found within these records.
F) Procedure updates
I was tasked with updating department Standard Operating Procedures, and training employees on the updated procedures. I research and developed a new operating procedure within the Warehouse department to improve quantity control of the materials. I assisted in developing a standardized manufacturing procedure between different operations that work with the same equipment in the same environment on different shifts.
G) Customer Complaint
I resolved a customer complaint by reviewing IPC’s, batch
manufacturing and packaging records.
H) Skills I have obtained during my internship year: Attention to detail, prioritization, analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving.


Community Service in 2023:
HCSC Military Sickbay Pharmacy (Park Rd, Oudtshoorn, 6625)
Responsible Pharmacist:
During my Community Service year, I am the only pharmacist at the facility with two Pharmacist assistants. Due to this personnel structure, I am the Responsible Pharmacist of the Pharmacy.
Procurement
I am responsible for the ordering of medication and ensuring stock levels are above minimum stock levels.
Employee organization
I am responsible for organizing the employees' vacation leave, schedule and submit overtime and schedule Stock takes on a quarterly basis.
Conflict management
As part of public health, the system often fails the patients. Due to this many patients get frustrated and angry. As I am the responsible pharmacist, it is my responsibility to resolve these conflict situations.
Schedule 6
As the only pharmacist in the pharmacy, it is my responsibility to dispense and order Schedule 6 medications. It is also my responsibility to update and balance the Schedule 6 register.
Cross-functional team
I form part of the multi-disciplinary team and must call doctors and other healthcare professionals regularly to determine the best treatment for the patient.
Leadership
As the responsible pharmacist I took on the role of a leader within the pharmacy. I was also selected as the chairperson of the civilian member committee. This position involved organizing social events for the employees of the sickbay. I also form part of the financial committee of the sickbay and take responsibility of the civilian committee funding.

My fourth-year research project has the topic of complementary and alternative medicine.
This will help me to understand natural medications available in pharmacies more, since only an overview is studied during the
BPharm course.
