Key Result Areas
a) Treaty broking (various lines of business) - Tasks in this area include the following;

- Working with the broking team, actuaries, and cat modelers to analyse insurance risks on a portfolio level in order to advise clients on reinsurance treaty structures to mitigate downside risk and improve capital efficiency.
- Negotiating terms and conditions of placement with lead underwriters, terms (both renewal and new business) utilizing the markets in Africa, Europe and Asia. Ensuring that reinsurance treaty terms provided by the reinsurer are competitive enough for the client and that accepted treaty structures do not present a leveraging cost for the client.
- Obtain quotes, and handle underwriter queries and requests for information.
- Analysing the performance statistics of the cedants, from risk profiles and calculating loss ratios, average rates to see if prices charged are within market-related.
- Performing the S&P testing using the financials of the client so as to see if the current treaty programme of the client is benefiting them.
- Worked together with our actuarial team on the optimisation for the annual Treaty Renewal and any new business opportunities to ensure optimal Reinsurance Structures are implemented for our cedants and ensuring the optimal use of shareholder funds/Capital
- Creating, maintaining and managing long-term business relationships with underwriters to enhance service delivery, establishing new opportunities for risk placement and facilitating the settlement and payment of claims.
- Providing advice to clients and colleagues on market developments and share knowledge of market trends to enhance the overall value proposition.
- Checking of treaty wordings to ensure coverages are in line with defined
underwriting guidelines of the cedant.
- Work closely with Finance and Technical Processing department in resolving accounting and technical queries.
- Distribute Reinsurance Renewal Packs to Reinsurers participating on the Company Reinsurance Programmes, and any new potential Reinsurers
- Treaty business development. Formulating and implementing penetration
strategies to acquire targeted clients.
- In 2019 I managed to design a treaty line slip for Liability risks for our
clients in Mozambique after the recent developments of Oil and gas.
- Monitoring of overall reinsurance portfolio to ensure overall profitability. If any deviations are noted, formulating action plans to ensure overall
portfolio profitability (We ensure quarterly meetings with the client).

b) Facultative broking. Including but not limited to the following;
- Getting to place the risks with reinsurers on time and preparing the reinsurance slips, making sure there are signed and sent to the cedant
- Engaging with reinsurers in providing quotations for risks and negotiating for better terms on behalf of clients.
- Ensuring claim and other administration queries are handled in a timely manner.
- Provide coaching and development to drive performance and ensure team members are competent
- Review and update the team son productivity and performance
- Participate in goal setting and steer team
- Handling complex facultative risks more of engineering risks, most of the power and energy risks across the world. For example, Gigawatt, Motraco, Vale just to name a few.
- Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with clients to enhance service delivery and identify new business opportunities
- Obtaining agreement to participate in a programme from support underwriters to ensure risks are placed in accordance with agreed terms and conditions
- Manage the reinsurance intermediation as part of the team including production, risk placing, client servicing, claims handling and associated functions.
- Produce clear and accurate documents and wordings for clients which provide the best possible cover in the market and adhere to all regulatory requirements.
- Use appropriate class of business knowledge to produce contract documents and documents suited to the client’s needs.
- Checking and recommending amendments to policies/contract documents produced by others prior to agreement by Underwriters.
- Checking final contract documents against slip or proposal details to ensure the appropriateness of the proposed standard policy.
- Create original and complex contract documents and maintain database of contract documents and policy information.
- Provide advice on contract documents within specified classes of business.
- Resolve Underwriter’s queries in a timely manner.
- To exercise judgment when reviewing proposals, either new or renewals.
- Maintain up-to-date and orderly files, and ensure documents are saved and
files are passed on to others in accordance with Company Rules and
Procedures.
- Provide and gather information to and from Clients, Underwriters, Brokers,
and Technical Processing Colleagues as required.
- Facilitate KYC compliance checks as relevant.
- Leading and taking an active part in activities and initiatives aimed at
promoting Company’s products and services in the marketplace (e.g. media
events, trade conferences, client seminars)
- Facultative business development.
c) TechnicalAccountingandClaims
- Processing of claims and recoveries, was on the fore front to recover some of the biggest claims coming out of Mozambique caused by cyclones Merec and Maeva in 2020.
- Preparing portfolio entries, withdrawals and runoffs
- Preparing of debit notes and credit notes as well as statements of accounts
and sending it to the respective clients. Collection of premiums and paying
the respective reinsurers
- Prepare missing account list to notify cedents on overdue accounts not
received
- Calculation of the Profit Commission.
- Credit Control and Reinsurance experience
