Duties

  • Acting responsible pharmacist for 4 months, coordination and supervision of pharmacy personnel and general order,
  • Overseeing the training and education of pharmacist’s assistants,
  • Managerial duties such as control over medicines budget and expenditure and assisting management with overall budget and expenditure monitoring,
  • Provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and support to patients, wards, hospital departments (internal and external) and Primary Healthcare Facilities (PHC facilities),
  • Liaise and provide support to all healthcare professionals with regards to medicine information, rational drug use, the Essential Medicines List (EML), and Standard Treatment guidelines (STG) and ensure compliance to the hospital formulary, EML, STG, provincial and national guidelines,
  • Dispensing scheduled medicines after scrutiny of a valid prescription,
  • Develops, maintains and demonstrates in-depth knowledge of local and major international health news and laws pertaining to pharmacy and their implications to the pharmacy and SA health setting. Brings to attention in a timely manner, any proposed changes affecting the pharmacy,
  • Ensure adherence to stock control procedures including procurement and aligning the budget with correct objective codes,
  • Assist in developing policies, protocols, standard operating procedures and guidelines for efficient and cost-effective pharmaceutical services,
  • Focusing om the availability of medicines and communication for procurement thereof to relevant stakeholders to ensure minimal impact on patients,
