About Shanaaz Kapery Randeria :
My motto in life is “I can!”
This has served me well through the various stages and events in my life. Testament to this is I'm a single parent to 2 successful and thriving adult daughters.
I work hard and prioritize my health and wellbeing through living a positive lifestyle, maintaining good social relationships, immersing myself in activities and work activities that bring me joy and fulfillment.
Professionally I started off as a radiogrpaher and then pursued my career in adolescent and youth work, with a focus on HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Mental Health through a degree and postgraduate degree in Psychology. Thereafter a Masters degree in International Public Health with a focus on adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. I am currently a PhD candidate in Public Health with a focus on medical students and interns mental health.
Having worked in the health, community and education sectors I have widespread knowledge and expertise on adolescent needs to best serve the health and wellbeing. I have a passion for sharing knowledge, and I'm always ready for a challenge.
Experience
- I started of as Diagnostic Radiographer, the specialized to work in a hospital theatre
- Worked as an Adolscent HIV specialist at Harriet Shezi Clinic, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where I designed, developed and implemented and Adolscent Program. Also managed a team of counsellors at the clinic, and provided in-house and external training and support
- Psychosocial Coordinator for the Moshal Scholarship Program for students across various degrees at Wits University. This included providing academic and psychosocial support to student from under-resourced environments so they could complete their degrees within the required time, whilst managing their mental health and wellbeing. Stakeholder engagement, strategy planning, report writing and budgeting were amongst some of my responsibilities.
- Head of Medical Students Program for the Moshal Scholarship Program where I designed, developed a specific medical students, and intern, program and implementing it. Suppoeting these individuals both academically and psychosocially os important with this Program but included is preparation for working with patients in the early stages of the degree and preparing senior students for work in challenging environment. Report-wrting, budgeting, training and facilitation and material development are other key responsibilities I fulfill.
