About Sesetu Nyeleka:
My name is Sesethu Nyeleka, I have been an agricultural science student for almost 8 years now. I was first introduced to the communication of agricultural scientific and non-scientific information in simplified and interesting methods such as traditional and social media during the final year of my junior degree. I further went on to my honors where I was investigating the role of community radio stations in disseminating agricultural information. It was during this time, because of the exposure I got from the project, that I become interested in science communication.
Experience
Since 2016 to 2018 I worked for the Agricultural and Rural Development Research Institute -ARDRI as a Communication officer and Media assistant where I was responsible for curating content on various platforms such community radio stations and the organizations website.
As a way to develop my skills in disseminating agriculture information I have been writing blogs whenever I had the opportunity to attend academic conferences. I am an alumni of the South African Young Academy of Science-SAYAS in 2019 where I was able to contribute to the bridging the gap between the agricultural knowledge and society. During my time as a SAYAS contributor I used various social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to engage with the academic, non-academic, scientific and non-scientific audiences. The experience helped me in developing content curating skills.
I am an Alumni of the Young African Leaders Initiative-YALI 2018 which is hosted by the University of South Africa-UNISA. I was enrolled in the Public Management and Governance track. Within this track I received training specifically in Public Management.
Education
I hold as Master of Agriculture degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Fort Hare. I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management.
