Senamile Kunene

This Senamile Kunene Malebese, a 37-year-old lady residing in South Africa, who began her career 12 years ago. I am currently a Senior Investment Officer (SIO) at a state owned DFI called the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) in the Transacting team. The Team transacts on Infrastructure Financing deals in South Africa and international (SADC & Sub-Saharan Africa). I joined the team in January 2020 and have been exposed to working on the R3,5bn South African Airlines (SAA) transaction. I worked with the team that closed two loan facility agreements totalling R5.5 billion, spanning 20 years, for the implementation of Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) through the Water Agency TCTA, which forms part of South Africa’s Vaal River System. I closed a deal that disbursed EUR55million to the Ministry of Finance Cote d’Ivoire for its roads network programme to construct and rehabilitate existing roads. I am in the process of executing $50 million for funding for another west African Sovereign that is also refurbishing and expanding its road network.

Prior to that, I was an Investment Associate for 5 years at RH Managers, a fund manager for the Razorite Healthcare Fund. This was a private equity firm that made equity investments into healthcare infrastructure in the form of independent hospital facilities. This was a great initiative to empower black doctors from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to have the opportunity to own their own private healthcare facilities.

This was after 3 years as a Corporate Finance Analyst at the boutique investment banking firm called Vunani Capital, as well as a Corporate and a Finance Analyst under the Valuations team at Deloitte and Touche for 6 months. At Vunani, I specialised in Corporate Finance Advisory, Capital raising, Debt structing and Finance advisory, Mergers &Acquisitions and Valuations.

In December 2021, I completed the master’s in business administration (MBA) at the Henley Business School from the University of Reading (UK). I have a B. Com (Accounting) degree, as well as PG Diploma in Management Practices. I also have proficient knowledge of French as I undertook it since Primary school to University stage. I aspire towards adding international career experience to my resume, as well as to widen my exposure by relocating to other parts of the world. My greatest passion is being part of the development of the African continent till it reached the desired global status.
