About Sarvdasha Sewlal:

A leader should not only be a great influencer but also a great learner, ever ready to acquire new skills, knowledge and values in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.

The values and character traits that I possess and embody epitomise that of a leader. These include the ability to motivate, lead and mentor others as well as empathy, compassion, dedication, perseverance, honesty, integrity, creativity, problem solving and decision-making skills

The ability to be a fast learner, compounded by my initiative to constantly progress and transform systems, has made me an invaluable member of the structural engineering team. As an engineer I am continuously challenged to solve problems and find innovative solutions in the various projects that I have worked on ensuring that I always make a positive impact to Transnet and the environment we operate in. My devout passion in the field of engineering will contribute immensely to the vision of elevating and becoming a catalyst for change and transformation.

As an employee at Transnet, I was a former member of the Durban Leadership Team, co-ordinating the wellness division. This allowed me the platform to think divergently, thereby enabling me to assist employees in maintaining healthy lifestyles and mental well-being, through the co-ordination of wellness events such as morning exercises, fun walks, and sporting tournaments. This boosted employee morale, team work and created stronger relationships between colleagues. My mentoring skills assisted Transnet in a tutelage programme, where I volunteered to tutor and mentor matric learners in Mathematics during 2018.

I firmly believe that my voice can be a beacon of hope and change. To this end I channelled my creativity to write and publish an anthology of poems entitled, ‘Yellow Roses’, which was written for the purpose of creating greater awareness on physical and emotional abuse of woman and children, animal abuse, poverty as well as other societal challenges and struggles that one may face during their lifetime. I was indeed honoured and privileged to have won the title of ‘Best English Female Poet’, bestowed upon me by the Book Behind Awards. This prestigious platform provided me the opportunity to speak out, motivate and inspire the youth, as I was a host on many podcasts and other platforms.

Furthermore, I was also the winner of the Zee Tv Miss India, Northern KwaZulu-Natal Pageant, which accorded me the platform to help, assist and motivate the greater community.  Consequently, within this context, I was involved with the Estcourt Cancer Relay for life being the only 24-hour CANSA relay in South Africa, raising much needed funds for CANSA. I also hosted numerous charity events and drives for the SPCA Durban, Estcourt Animal Shelter and the Cupcakes of Hope Organisation but to mention a few.

I strongly believe that a leader motivates, inspires, and encourages their colleagues and act as an instrument for positive change. I pride myself on my nature to inspire, educate and motivate others. My strong will, determination and thirst for knowledge allows me to continuously improve and transform myself to grow and be the best version that I need to be in the community and in my career path.
