Reynier van Rooyen

I have been working in media for over 10 years, executing successful video productions for both broadcasting and corporate industries. My objectives are to always achieve the ultimate professional excellence in my field, through a creative and result orientated approach. I strive to be hard working, self motivated, determined and a team player. With my exposure to both the local and international industry, it has broadened my horizons and instilled a deep craving to always expand my skill set and improve my quality of work.

With a diverse and extensive background in the world of media and content creation, I bring a wealth of experience to every project I undertake. As the Director of Direct Message from July 2020 to August 2023, my team and I specialized in crafting compelling photo, video, and graphic marketing content for local businesses. Additionally, we excelled in providing photography and videography services for weddings, events, portfolios, and families, creating lasting memories for our clients.

Before founding Direct Message, I served as a Senior Video Producer at 2u Cape Town from February 2019 to May 2020. During this time, I collaborated with both local and international university partners, delivering top-tier online educational videos to meet the highest standards of quality and engagement.

Prior to that, as a Video Specialist at the Candice German Gallery, I focused on the creation of audio-visual content for exhibitions, marketing initiatives, and small documentaries, showcasing the works of various artists.

My journey in the media industry began in 2008 when I assumed the role of Video Producer & Director at Crue Productions, where I oversaw every aspect of video production, successfully delivering projects for broadcasting and corporate clients over the course of eight years.

Earlier in my career, as a Broadcasting Controller at SuperSport from January 2007 to February 2008, I played a pivotal role in editorial control, ensuring the smooth playout of live programs, collaborating with various departments, and managing delivery logistics.

Furthermore, I gained valuable experience as a Casting Assistant at Casting Studios International from March 2005 to November 2005, working alongside casting and artistic directors on various movies, commercials, and TV shows, providing administrative support and contributing to the casting process.

My diverse portfolio and extensive industry experience have allowed me to work with a wide range of clients, from educational institutions and art galleries to corporate entities and broadcasting networks. With a commitment to excellence and a passion for storytelling, I am dedicated to bringing creativity and innovation to every project I undertake.

At the University of Stellenbosch, I pursued a comprehensive program in Media & Communication Studies at NQF level 7. Within this study field, I specialised in Television & Film, with a strong focus on Producing, Directing, Videography, and Editing. This dynamic field of study equipped me with a wide range of skills and knowledge essential for thriving in the media and entertainment industry.
