I am currently a Specialist Master Data Management however am acting in the manager role, Senior Specialist Data Management. Responsible for ensuring the quality, security, and compliance of an organization's data assets. Designing and implementing strategies to maintain accurate data, establish data governance frameworks, and ensure adherence to data protection regulations, contributing to effective data-driven decision-making. 
 

Experience

I am an experienced Senior data analyst with a vast background in audit, data governance and analysis. I am in possession of a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Internal Audit and National Diploma majoring in Financial Information Systems and certificate in Commercial Accounting. I have worked for several renowned companies such as Sekela, Ernst & Young, Absa and Nedbank. 

 

My career started in 2004 at Sekela Consulting as an Internal Auditor. From 2008 to 2011 obtained experience as a data analyst and as an IT auditor. Then I moved to Nedbank Group Internal audit where I performed in the CAATs auditor role from 2011 to 2013.

 

In 2013 I joined Absa as a Data Quality officer performing data quality reviews, measuring the overall integrity of the client, customer, and counterparty information across the bank. I went on to gain experience in data visualization in the form dashboarding in QlikView as a MIS specialist at ABSA 

 

As a BI Data Analyst at Nedbank’s data warehouse, I was performing both data analyst and business analyst duties. I was part of the process that builds and deploys data warehouse solutions i.e., developing Datamart, aligning Datamart model to data and metadata standards.

Experience as a Specialist MDM.

I am a specialist Master Data Management however currently acting in the manager role of Senior Specialist Data Management. My main responsibilities are: 

  • Provide and assure standardised, common definitions and business ownership of data items such as key performance indicators that have been communicated and understood across the entire organisation. 
  • Assure that the data collected, stored, and processed by the organisation adheres to regulatory and ethical standards. 
  • Provide the project with processes, standards, guidelines and structures for master data and configuration data elements, Direct data analysis and clean-up activities, Provide governance and guidelines on data migration and upload activities 
  • Ensure data integrity and integration between functional teams are not compromised 
  • Provide the project with processes, standards, guidelines and structures for master data and configuration data elements, Direct data analysis and clean-up activities, Provide governance and guidelines on data migration and upload activities 
  • Monitor and Ensure Statutory and Regulatory Compliance. 
  • Application of quality management techniques to data, in order to assure it is fit for consumption and meets the needs of data consumers 
  • Enable and facilitate the management of shared data (master and reference data) to meet organizational goals, reduce risks associated with data redundancy, enable higher quality, enable data harmonisation, and reduce the costs of data integration 
  • Work with the Data team to continuously improve and optimise the Data Quality and Master Data Management that support the data projects required by business 

 

Experience as a Data Quality Officer.

  • Performed data quality reviews based on DAMA data quality life cycle is adhered i.e., Initiate, Assess, Analyse, Reporting and Monitoring
  • Participated in regulatory initiatives that measured data quality and adherence thereof e.g., KYC, FATCA and sanctions project
  • Assessing business adherence to Implemented data quality policies, standards, frameworks, processes, procedures, and relevant controls 
  • Prepare reports that indicate the level of DQ within various customer master files i.e., CIF, Midbase, Exergy etc.
  • Recommend remediation procedure for irregularities observed to ensure client data is fit for purpose.
