Phineas Mpara Makola

I am a vibrant 31 years old African male, born and raised in Limpopo province of South Africa, the city of Polokwane. I have obtained my varsity bachelors degree from the University of Limpopo, Turfloop campus. My greatest passion is research although I have spent most of my employment years in a diagnostic environment. I consider myself to be a very skilled scientist who is very eager to learn, always open to new ideas and scientific approaches, willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. I am also very creative and innovative, an out-of-the-box thinker, I might say. I enjoy mostly spending most of my laboratory time performing scientific method validations as it allows me to exercise and execute my innovative and troubleshooting capabilities. I am quite a team player and often able to resonate a character that encourages other people to be the best of themselves. I have good leadership quality and a very effective communicator. 

However, above most, I am just an individual obsessed with continuous self-empowerment and development with the ultimate goal to becoming the best there's ever been. I am a very competitive sport and love pulling other people along in my achievements. I believe that success is not only measured by personal achievements but by also the magnitude of impact on your surrounding. 

I am now just looking for a fresh start as I turn the old page in my book and will be willing to relocate or work per any suitable operational requirements.

I have two years experience as a student laboratory assistant in the field of medical biochemistry and Chemical pathology.

One (1) year experience as a field worker for NIH under the “AWI-Gen H3Africa Genomic and Environmental Risk Factors for Cardiometabolic Disease in Africans” umbrella study functioning as a visceral and subcutaneous adiposity ultrasonography personnel, assisting participants with questionnaire completions, performing anthropometric measurements and laboratory testing for fasting blood glucose, lipids and inflammatory markers.

I also completed an internship with the NHLS Infectious Control Division, at Wits Medical School, performing assay validations, microscopy testing, culture assays, and primarily, working with Molecular Biology assays such as gel electrophoresis and PCR.

I also served two years as a laboratory scientist at Anglo-American in response to the COVID-19 pandemic wherein I was performing molecular PCR testing. 

I then became a team-leader for the AA lab for a year before a was moved to my current position as a quality assurance advisor in the AA Pathology Laboratory Quality Assurance Department. 

I hold a high school bachelor certificate, a university bachelors degree in BSc Medical Sciences, Chemical Pathology with merit. I also have an attempted MSC in Chemical Pathology which is incomplete due to reasons undisclosed.
