About Oyisa Ngwendu:

I am a bachelor of pharmacy graduate at Nelson Mandela University (NMU), as a student I worked at the department of pharmacy as a clinical tutor for pharmaceutical sciences, where I was assisting second year students with extemporaneous compounding according to the British Pharmaceutical Codex. Ensuring that Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Pharmacy Practice principles were adhered to by students during compounding. Assessing students products for stability and marking of student scripts under supervision. I also did numerous practical hours at community (retail), hospital and primary healthcare clinic (PHC) pharmacy (particularly volunteered at the Wells estate PHC, where I was dispensing medication which is a process that includes 3 phases phase 1 interpreting of scripts and ensuring authenticity as well as checking safety and effectiveness of therapy. Phase 2 includes picking and packing of correct medicines and phase 3 counseling of patients, ensuring that decisions I make throughout the dispensing process are in the best interest of the patient.

I am a critical thinker, I enjoy working in groups and I excel in teamwork. I have time management skills as well even though I might have not mentioned on my CV I am a very well organized individual so I differentiate my time between my professional activities and personal activities. I am punctual

Experience

Clinical tutor for pharmaceutical sciences, where I was assisting second year bachelor of pharmacy students at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) with extemporaneous compounding according to the British Pharmaceutical Codex. Ensuring that Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Pharmacy Practice principles were adhered to by students during compounding. Assessing students products for stability and marking of student scripts under supervision. I have completed over 250 hours of work based learning both in a community pharmacy and PHC setting, where I was working the the scope of practise of both the post basic pharmacist assistant and as well as the of the pharmacist, part of my scope was dispensing of medication to patients, dispensing is a process mainly of 3 phases. In which we focused mainly on patient counseling in which we explain to patients thoroughly about medicine as well as answer possible questions in relation to their health. It not only leads to a clearer understanding about questions and concerns each patient may have, but also plays an important role in underlining the necessity of medication adherence.

Part of the curriculum of the Bachelor of Pharmacy program for final years is a 6 month hospital rotation, in which we attend at Dora Nginza, Livingstone and Provincial Hospital 3 days a week. Where I gained experience on how to interact with other professionals in a Multi disciplinary team that is doctors, physicians and nurses etc, I interacted with patients in wards most importantly we reviewed patient files for effective medicine use and drug therapy as well to note any duplications.
