My name is Nqobile, I was born and raised in Katlehong. I went to Phumulani secondary school, I studied accounting, business studies, economics and mathematics in high school. I was a class monitor in grade 9 and a leader for scholar patrollers. After high school I always knew that I want to be a psychologist, I applied at varsities and got accepted at UJ. Because of not having funds to study, I took and a gap year and got a job. I saved money, the following year I applied with UNISA so that I can study part-time and continue with working, I was able to pay for the registration. NSFAS paid for my fees for the first and second year, I continued paying for the other years until I secured a degree in Psychology. Because I was working in retail, after obtaining my degree I decided to go volunteer within my field of study. I then received an internship at the Gauteng department of education, I then registered for honours in psychology. This is my last year of honours.

I worked as a volunteering counsellor at Ekupholeni mental health and trauma center. With the following duties:

-Aid communities, people, groups, and families in need of holistic approach to healing, recovery, and empowerment  as well as those who have gone through or are going through trauma  

-Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to clients and families as appropriate to the position 

-Collects data about patients through interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques 

-Valuates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral  -Provides casework management of a specialized caseload, as appropriate to the requirements of the individual position  

-Performs research and case assessments; prepares individualized studies for admission, placement, and/or discharge, as applicable

-Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for patients or clients in a crisis condition and for those with serious disturbance problems. 

-Follows up to determine reliability and validity of treatment used; makes recommendations regarding modification to services and service delivery 

-Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client records, rights, and responsibilities 

-Consults with other therapists and related professional and paraprofessional staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.

-Participates in the review of program policies and procedures. 

-Participates in training sessions or workshops to enhance treatment skills.

I have also received an internship at Gauteng department of education, doing the following duties:

-HIV and aids, STI and Tb awareness and education, pre and post counselling 

-Onsite health screenings, support for the families of those affected 

-HIV and TB referrals and enrolment on GEMS Disease management, NGO's referrals  

-Face-to-Face Counselling -Legal Advice -Financial Advice -Trauma Management Service 

-HIV/AIDS management services: including HIV/AIDS counselling and support to those infected and affected 

-Render employee assistance through counselling (Individual and group sessions) and other forms of interventions I.e. referrals to relevant professionals 

-Generate, consolidate and submit reports (including trends analysis) and statistics for the CEO and the provincial office 

-Promote health awareness of health-related events, activities and interventions (Wellness Day, HIV/AIDS, etc.).

I hold as degree in Counselling psychology and currently doing my last year of honours in psychology.
