My Name is Nivesh Rawatlal , Iam a GraphicArtist/Designer
and founder of Rolling Stoned Design,
my own one man army of a design “agency”,

where I can practice being a Jack of all trades while mastering many.
 

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:

- Freelance Graphic Designer/Art Direction – Avatar Agency Durban (Oct 2022 – December 2022)
Accounts include: Edgars Club, Ster Kinekor, Aquelle,
SABC Soccer World Cup Coverage, Watercrest Mall.

I temped at Avatar Durban in 2022, I was responsible for providing support to the Creative Directors via Figma, provided support as a Senior Designer making sure short form motion graphics where delivered in line with the agencies requirements for their accounts. Main skills required was Motion Graphics & Video Editing. Figma was also extensively used. Timekeeping was kept via Wrike.

- Freelance Graphic Designer – Fin Factory (2021)

Clients include: Clover, Pick n Pay, Spar

Worked as an in-house designer at Fin Factory where I developed in store Signage and Display

materials for Clover products at Spar andnPick n Pay Stores across the Province, this included work on Trade presenters as well as package labels. I also was responsible for reworking translated English to Zulu versions of their In-house magazine iClover. In addition I also developed some in house Video work for pitches.

- Project Manager – ArtLab Durban (Oct 2020 – April 2021) Open Plan Studio, Station Drive

Responsible for the design of the entire programme, generating leads and hiring of team of Digital Designer, Graphic Designer, Copywriter and Administrator. The aim of the Programme was to arm young creatives with the support they required to develop their portfolios in response to the devastation of the COVID 19 Pandemic. This included Design, Photography, Fashion Design and Digital Design. As a team we facilitated a program that connected big names in the industry with a space conducive to sharing ideas and experience with these young designers.

- Part Time Lecturer at Varsity College PMB, Durban North, Westville (2022 – Present)

Specialist in Design Thinking & Problem Solving. I facilitate the understanding of how to utilise the Design Thinking Process in order to develop Innovative solutions. Introducing students
to the conceptof Target markets and how to Design with a Human Centric Approach

- Part Time Lecturer at Rosebank College (2020 – Present)

Lecturing Drawing, Video Editing, Photography theory, Indesign and Graphic design Practice.

- Part Time Lecturer at Vega (2019 – Present)

Lecturing Photoshop & Illustrator to Photography, Copyrighting and Higher Certificate level students. These skills form the foundation of the students careers and development with under standing print and digital media.

- Permanent Lecturer at Damelin (2018 – 2019)

Lecturing Media and Graphic Design to 1st – 3rd year students, specialising in teaching Photoshop & Illustrator as well as History of design and Drawing.

- Permanent Lecturer at CTI Durban North (2011 – 2017)

Responsible for Graphic Design Students 1st – 3rd Year into capable, competitive creatives in real world work environments as well as professional entrepreneurial self employment. I have lectured from 1st to 3rd year and specialise in modules ranging from Drawing, History of Design, Advertising Theory & Practice, Design Studio practice & Digital Design.

Reasons for leaving: Restructuring resulted in department closing and retrenchment.

- Part Time Lecturer at Inscape Durban (2016 – 2017)

Conducted evening classes in computer applications from photoshop, illustrator and after effects. Assisted 3rd year students with their projects and how to get the best out of software and creativity.

Reasons for leaving: Contract Completed.

- Event Management for Groundswell Productions (2015 – 2019)

Aimed at producing a Multi-Genre inclusive platform for young creatives in Durban. We created access between underground culture and the mainstream in order to effect the change we wanted to see in Durban’s creative environment through music and art.

- Director of Sketchwars031 (2014 – 2021)

Mobile Live Art Pop Ups that appear around Durban at events and gigs, aimed at promoting collaboration amongst emerging visual artists.

- Part Time Lecturer at Vega (2011 – Present)

Lecturer in Brand Communication and Multimedia design: 1st & 2nd Year Level, I completed my contract in 2011 and returned to lecture part time again from 2019 to the present.)

- Part Time Lecturer at CTI Durban North (2010 – 2011)

I began lecturing my first class in digital design with the aims of turning first years into capable freelancers and to gain experience in managing a team of young creatives.

- Inhouse Graphic Designer at Arts for Humanity (2009 – 2015)

Responsible for Design and Layout of Banners that were printed at Hirt and Carter and Displayed in schools. Development and Layout work for Dialogue amongst Civilisations

- Freelance Graphic Artist/Designer (2009- Present)

Specialising in illustration from my Btech Studies, I established RollingStoned Design as a freelance entity,my work includes a large variety of clients, from Blue Mercury, Greenpeace Africa, Red Bull, House Of Graduates, New Frame, Untitled Entertainment, in addition to international clients like Stockton Pub, Hong Kong and Brian Enright Sculpture,Alaska.

Work includes, Logo Development and Branding, Advertising and Illustration, Posters,
Book Covers, Editorials, Murals, Live Art, Social Media Posts, Basic Website and Website Banner Design (Wordpress + Elementor), Workshopping the Design Thinking Process, Print proofing with banner design and basic packaging. I have also gained intermediate experience in Motion Graphics and Video Editing.
