About Nerine du Plessis:
As a pharmacist with both a BPharm and MPharm degree from WITS, supported by hands-on experience in hospital pharmacy and a strong foundation in evidence-based practice. I bring a comprehensive understanding of both clinical pharmaceutical care and regulatory framework governing medicine use. My academic and professional experience has developed strong competencies in rational medication use, medication safety, and regulatory compliance.
My background as a high-level athlete provides a unique perspective on human physiology, ethical use of medication, and navigating complex regulatory environments, strengthening my ability to apply regulations responsibly and contribute within multidisciplinary teams.
I am committed to advancing pharmacy practice through scientific rigor, ethical practice, and adherence to professional standards, with the goal of ensuring safe, effective, and responsible use of medication.

I worked in both the front shop and dispensary. Supporting day-to-day operation. Duties included packing shelves and stock-take, counting and preparation of medication, assisting with interpreting and packing of prescriptions under supervision. Providing customer-facing support including general assistance and advice on over-the-counter medication and health products.

Nelson Mandela Children Hospital – Pharmacy Intern
February 2022 – November 2022
Supporting the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy. Duties included counting, preparing and compounding of medication, conducting stock-take and assisting in inventory management, assisting with the interpretation, packing, and dispensing of prescriptions for both in and out-patients.
Additionally, I accompany the clinical pharmacist during rounds, gaining a strong understanding of medication management, patient centered care and the benefits of a multidisciplinary team approach to clinical practice.
University of the Witwatersrand – Academic Intern

In addition to completing research, I assisted the department on an ongoing basis. Duties included assisting in examination proceedings including invigilation, marking, and providing feedback on assignments, contributed to teaching of students by developing and presenting lecture content, conducting tutorials and developing test questions, as well as supporting in administrative tasks in the department.
AMHU Port Elizabeth Hospital Pharmacy – Community Service Pharmacist

Evaluating prescriptions for accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness, followed by the dispensing of medications in line with professional and legal standards. Managing and controlling pharmaceutical inventory, including the oversight of Schedule 6 substances to ensure full regulatory compliance. Collaborated with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support improved clinical outcomes and participated in health education and promotion initiatives aimed at enhancing health literacy across various branches of the armed services.
