Mussarat Mahomed

My name is Mussarat Mahomed. I am an Occupational Therapist from South Africa. I have 2 years of clinical experience in this field including community service. I also have a passion for teaching therefore I have also tutored privately during my years of studying. I recently became TEFL certified as teaching is part of my hobbies. During my 2 years of working as OT, I have gained more confidence in working with patients, became quick at problem solving as well mastered leadership skills. I also have improved my skills on using OT equipment and professional knowledge. My hobbies include traveling, sports and tutoring. My objective is to work in an environment which encourages me to succeed and grow professionally where I can utilize my skills. I am a quick learner and able to work with confidence in diverse situations.

 My role as an Occupational Therapist included:
1)Assess and determine patients level of functioning.
2)Develop treatment plans and goals and administer appropriate OT procedures.
3)Improve, restore and maintain skills in activities of daily living.
4)Liaising with referring physicians and other health professionals regarding patients treatment plan.
5)Identifying and facilitating engagement in meaningful occupations.
6)Consulting with groups, communities and organizations to provide community based services.
7)Educate family members on carrying as well as the patient or caregiver in carrying out appropriate non skilled interventions.
8)Contact suppliers for OT equipment and supervisor for maintenance of equipment.
9)Attended workshops and courses for continous professional development.
10)Adhere to all hospital policies and duties.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

I started my 4 year course in 2016 and finished in 2019.
