Khanyisani Mtheku

My name is Khanyisani Mtheku, and I am a PhD candidate in Economic History and Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. For my PhD research, my main focus is on decolonising the socio-economic impact of immigrants in the host country, where African immigrants engaged in small, medium and micro-sized enterprises in Mthwalume, South Africa, are utilized as a case study.

I am passionate about working in any academic related job; such as research; teaching, as I'm currently a contract lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College.

In previous years, between 2012 and 2019; I have been working as a tutor and contract lecturer in the field of Economic History and Development Studies, at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I also worked as a data collector (fieldworker) in a company known as Council for Built for Environment, and that was 2015.

Other experiences:

I worked as a Safety, Health and Environmental Representative (Transnet), from 2018 to 2021.

Currently, I am a PhD candidate, and I possess the following qualifications:

Master of Social Science (Economic History and Development Studies)- 2017 Bachelor of Social Science Honors (Economic History & Development Studies)- 2012

Undergraduate degree: 

Bachelor of Social Science majored with Economic History; and Cultural & Heritage Tourism (University of KwaZulu-Natal- 2011)
