Hi! I'm a graduate from South Africa and I'm looking for work in the UK. I am both compassionate and adaptable. With a background in fine arts and psychology, I have perspective's on the emotions, creativity and well-being of others. Through my studies, I have strengthened my communication skills and understanding of mental health, as well as built up my resilience, patience and problem solving skills. I am seeking a role where I can best utilize my skills in a meaningful environment, help others and professionally grow.
Experience
As a recent graduate, I limited work experience, but I've worked part time as a shop assistant:
- Provided helpful and attentive customer service, addressing client needs, offering advice and managing general tasks.
- Gained interpersonal and communication skills through daily interaction with clients, as well as ability to work well with other colleagues.
- Demonstrated reliability and efficiency under pressure through the management of multiple responsibilities.
Education
I completed a BA in Fine Arts with a Major in Psychology
● Analysis and interpretation of visual and written media, through continuous study of contemporary and historical visual media and text in various areas of culture, society and art.
● Good communication of media and information, presenting work on a regular basis, communicating the work in a readable and understandable way to experts as well as non-experts.
● Technical abilities in art methodologies, such as printmaking and painting.
● Skilled in critical analysis with proficient researching abilities.
● Wrote an undergrad dissertation relating to the thoughts, actions and strategies of care and empathy displayed through visual and tactile media.
● Relevant courses:
● Developmental psychology: understanding of how a person develops from infancy through to adulthood, detailing how they develop through parental, social and cultural interaction. Describes how health and any potential mental illness would take course and affect development.
● Social psychology: understanding of how people influence and affect one another, detailing how relationships develop and change depending on circumstance.
● Critical psychology: understanding of how Western psychology has dominated psychological and mental health practices throughout history, detailing how we have to include the perspectives of others, their circumstances and their identity (race, gender, culture, etc.) when we formulate strategies to help others and improve social systems.
● Community psychology: understanding of when we create strategies and formulate solutions to mental health and social issues, we need to include those who we intend to help in the formulation process. Describes a process of making care more accessible for those who need it.
