About Mazwi Mangcu:

I'm humble and versatile to the extent that I'm capable of fitting in any environment or amongst many groups of different people. I'm A hard worker who puts all for the betterment of my students. I guide and mentor my students as though they were my own children. After all, I'm guided by the locos parentis ethos that says, when students are entrusted to my care, then they are my children. I'm very trustworthy to deliver as per the expectation of my clients. I'm a rules based person, albeit who always has a smile towards my students and colleagues, as I'm also a team player. A collective works better, as I would have to consult on a variety of topics and issues and also do my own research. Creating rapport with my students and colleagues brings out the best in me, especially from my students because through that environment, they are capable of learning from their mistakes. I'm process as well as results oriented. I demand the very best from my students and reward efforts to obtain a desired learning outcome. However, I'm also very considerate and understanding towards my student's challenges. I'm a very respectful person of other peoples beliefs, languages and religious orientation, hence I'm adaptable to regulations of a host country and observe its laws.

Experience

I started teaching in 1995 at a High School in East London in South Africa and taught Grade 12 History there, for six years. I prepared lesson plans and taught according to the outcomes based education system. I had been approved to mark Grade 12 History Final examination papers in Port Elizabeth marking center. During my tenure at Mdantsane Finishing school, I was elected to the Disciplinary Committee and the School Governing Body. I was also requested to Convene and Coordinate Workshops on Governance and Regulatory education management space. In 2002, I was seconded to Vulamazibuko Senior Secondary School, wherein I was assigned duties of teaching Grace 10 Social Science syllabus and also Grade 8 English syllabus. I also wrote and prepared June and December examination papers for both subjects.

In 2005, I resigned from the education space and I was assigned a contract managerial position as Chief of Staff by the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union in Johannesburg. My tenure lasted on for eight months. In 2007, I was employed by Momentum Industrial Funds, as a Communications Officer. My duties entailed preparing minutes for the seven regional advisory committees in seven regions. I chaired and took notes in the meeting around provident funds claims. I also conducted workshops the interpretation and implementation of section 37c & d of the pension funds act of 1956. I also updated the fund's website and newsletter. In addition, I also prepared minutes for the Communication's Sub - Committee which also reported directly to the board.

After the dissolution of the division based on operational requirements, I found myself in limbo until I was given an olive branch and was appointed by the Al Khaleej Training and Education, as an English Instructor in Saudi Arabia from 2015 to 2020. During my tenure, I was also recognized by the Deanship of the English Preparatory Year for Tireless Efforts. I was also requested to convene and coordinate a workshop on how to mitigated conflict situations during a lesson in class. During the 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 academic years, I was requested to be responsible for printing, batching sorting and distribution of examinations material. I was also responsible for archiving the examinations material and safe designated storage rooms. I was similarly requested to be part of a video program to welcome, encourage and motivate students at Hail University Preparatory Year Program.

I tendered my resignation in 2020 due to corvid outbreak and came back to SA.

Education

My most relevant education was to navigate and be impactful in an environment that was predominantly Arabic. I had to find ways and means of making my lessons impactful, meaningful and memorable to my students. Teaching English as a second language within the context and environment of my students was not just challenging, but educational and eye opening in itself. Drawing from my own experiences as a non native speaker can be quite rewarding and provided some mitigating tools to enable my lessons to have a meaningful impact to my students.
