Maria Mashifane

I am currently employed as a Research Analyst II at Sappi Technology Centre in Pretoria. I hold a Bachelor of Technology in Analytical Chemistry and 6 years of work experience in Research and Development. My area of expertise is Chromatography (Gas and Liquid) and Spectroscopy. 

My work experience includes sampling, sample preparation and analysis with High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (UV-DAD, IR & ECD), Ion Chromatography, Gas Chromatography (GC-FID), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), FTIR, UV-Vis, titrimetric methods and basic methods such as pH, Density and Conductivity. I have received adequate training on how to troubleshoot and verify equipment, data interpretation and processing, compilation of test reports and updating control charts to comply to the ISO17025 quality standard. I have experience in method development, managing a laboratory and able to work 12-hour shifts. In addition, I have gained leadership skills from being a chairperson of the Firefighters Committee at Sappi Technology Centre (2021 - Present). I have also gained excellent awareness in safety and quality from the initiatives promoted at Sappi Technology Centre.

Outside my job I do Graphic Design as a hobby. I love learning new things and solving problems. I am a curious individual and not afraid to take risks. My favourite quote is: " Feel the fear and do it anyway".

I have obtained an Advanced Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (2022) and National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (2019) from the Vaal University of Technology.
