Dear Sir/Madam,

I am presently exploring career opportunities in counselling, particularly associated with mental health and supporting individuals to reach their optimal quality of life. I believe that with the right kind of motivation and support, anyone can make their dreams come true and that there is no greater reward than seeing someone rise above challenges and conquer their goals. 

I am very interested in Somatic experiencing and received a certificate from the International Trauma Institute to be able to practice EmotionAid. Furthermore, I have recently completed my BPsych Equivalence Programme at the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP). I am eligible to write the board exam with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in February 2022 in order to become a Registered Counsellor.

As a teacher, I already know how to effectively connect with students, build relationships and foster bonds built on trust and empathy. Changing roles from teacher to counsellor gives me the opportunity to continue using these skills in a new way, improving the lives of people by helping them deal with any difficulties they may face.

Experience and knowledge are important aspects, but they tend to pale in comparison to having the right personal qualities. I am often described as empathetic, a good listener, motivating and organised – traits that I believe are all important to succeed as a counsellor. When I am passionate about an issue or a given task, I work tirelessly to see my goal achieved. I prefer working with mindfulness, cognitive behavioural, client-centred and short-term solutions focused techniques. My focus is my client and their needs and I adapt the interventions accordingly.

I hope that this writing has given you a brief insight into who I am, and what I can bring to your team. I also hope that I will be given the opportunity to meet with you so that I may give you an even better idea of why I am the right person to join your team.

I have 12 years of teaching experience with a wide variety of ages and cultural backgrounds. This helped develop communication skills and management of processes involving groups and individuals. 

I completed my counselling training in 2021 (Bpsych Equivalence Program). I also completed my honours in counselling psychology and education. I also have a sport science degree.
