About Julia Jarvel:
Exploring flavours and thinking outside of the box to celebrate natural foods for consumers, is the heart of who I am. My passions are to help reduce food waste and promote sustainable and healthy food options through creative brand awareness. As well as indulging in recipes/magazines and creating new innovative products. I am a diligent and hardworking individual who solves challenges with integrity, grace and determination. When the sun is out, I like to be active (hiking or swimming in the sea) and be surrounded by family or friends sharing a meal prepared with love. Or cuddled up with a good book and a four-legged furry friend.
I am a consumer scientist with in-depth knowledge in consumers' behaviours, marketing and branding, foodservice management and I am passionate about food styling and photography.
Experience
- Food stylist and Product developer assistant- Premier Nut (July- September 2022). I have gained work experience in learning how to communicate a brand through food styling and researched relevant food packaging and meat regulations for the development of products.
- SPAR product development- University of Pretoria (February- June 2022). I have further gained product development experience with SPAR by developing an “Amasi Rye Bagel” as an extension to their rye bread range. I learnt valuable project management skills, branding, research and ensured that relevant nutritional claims and food safety were adhered to.
- Merchandising, Ordering & General Management- SUPERSPAR & Tops! (February 2021 & July 2022). I gained work experience in the merchandising and ordering division, I analysed sales and looked for potential growth areas. I interned a general management and did floor walks, stock control and liaised with suppliers.
- Social Media Marketing & Promotions (January- March 2021). I have 3 years experience in marketing from my degree and I have further gained experience by working as an intern at the Fat Fish restaurant in which I did social media marketing, started an Uber account, did promotional marketing for the fish monger as well as food photography and did stock control using the GAAP system.

Bachelor of Consumer Science: Food Retail Management with distinction at the University of Pretoria 2022.
