About Joshua Kumbula:
With a PhD in education and hands-on experience as a programme manager for a student teacher work-integrated programme, I have a unique blend of academic expertise and practical skills. I have a proven track record of managing programme logistics, coordinating stakeholders, and optimising remote learning environments. I am a rapid learner with a passion for evidence-based practice and eager to apply my research, analytical, and program management skills to a broader range of initiatives within a new and challenging context.
Experience
I am an experienced educator and Ph.D. holder with a strong background in various educational settings. My professional journey spans from being a Programme Manager at Thuto Trust, where I am responsible for programme planning and managing mentors, to serving as an Educator, Head of Subject and Learning, and Teaching Support Material Coordinator at St Barnabas School of Specialization for over 15 years. I also held educator positions at Foundation School and Muteo School, where I achieved a 100% pass rate with both mainstream and special needs learners. I possess skills in student-centred learning, technological instruction, curriculum planning, and student progress reporting. I hold a Ph.D. in Education from the University of South Africa, a Master of Technology and a Bachelor of Technology in Education from Tshwane University of Technology, and a Diploma in Education from the University of Zimbabwe.
Education
My most relevant education includes a Ph.D. in Education from the University of South Africa (UNISA), which I obtained in 2023. The thesis for my Ph.D. focused on improving learner and teacher performance through the effective use of ICTs in Soweto secondary schools in Gauteng Province. Before my doctoral studies, I earned a Master of Technology in Education from Tshwane University of Technology in 2009, with majors in Curriculum studies, Human resource management, Management of change, and Teaching studies. I also hold a Bachelor of Technology in Education from the same university, obtained in 2002.
