I've been in the short term insurance sector for more than 18 years in which I've been responsible for conducting thorough merits and quantum investigations in line with legislation that governs MVA claims.

My then job description as a Claims Officer entailed the following : 

• Investigation of personal injury claims lodged against the Road Accident Fund (RAF) to determine liability and ensure compliance with the RAF Act and directives of the organisation
• Repudiation of claims that have not complied and where the claimant was the negligent party 
• Ensuring timeous settlement of claims 
• Analyzing and identifying fraudulent claims 
• Preparing reports on fraudulent claims for further escalation to Forensics Department 
• Quantifying damages suffered by the claimant in line the current case law
• Assessment of loss of support claims 
• Assessment of loss of earnings claims 
• Preparation of settlement offers on both quantum and merits 
• Liaising with attorneys on defended matters 
• Providing attorneys with opinion on defended matters 
• Instructing attorneys on high court and magistrate court matters 
• Instructing assessors and medical experts 
• Attending to interrogations of claimants and witness in hit and run claims. 
• Perusing, interpreting and assessing reports from medical experts and assessors 
• Consultation with clients
• Informing clients on progress on matters 
• Attending to queries from claimants and external stakeholders 
• Act as a senior on request
• Drafting executive summaries on matters in excess of R500 000 or above 

My then job description as a Senior Claims Officer entailed the following:

• Administration of RAF Sec. 17(4)(a) claims where the claimant or supplier has an attorney or Curator Bonis/Trustee on record,
• Ensuring all actions are sound in law and that good accounting practice and procedure is at all times adhered to, 
• Also supervise and guide my immediate subordinates (Claims Officers, Junior Officers and Administrations Assistants)
• Act as manager when manager is off duty in line with the company's Delegation o
