Experience

I currently work as the Manager for Strategic Development at the Sydney Brenner Institute for Molecular Bioscience (SBIMB), which is a research entity within the Faculty of Health Science at the University of the Witwatersrand. Since joining the SBIMB in November 2016, I have taken on various key responsibilities. These include leading the projects office, which involves overseeing a small team responsible for managing funding contracts, procurement processes, and project management for different research projects. I also ensure that the SBIMB's budget and financial management align with the contractual conditions of local and international grant awards while meeting project objectives. Additionally, I collaborate with the SBIMB Director to develop and implement strategic plans for the institute's sustainability. Jocelyn plays a crucial role in planning and coordinating important meetings, such as Advisory Board meetings, workshops, and research symposiums. I  prioritise effective communication among stakeholders. Furthermore, I manage the recruitment of operational staff, post-graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. I ensure timely submission of reports to funders, assist with grant writing and funding application management, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal policy documents. Prior to joining the SBIMB, I worked as a Programme Officer at the National Research Foundation, a South African government funding agency. In this role, I managed two equipment funding instruments aimed at providing state-of-the-art research equipment to South African researchers at public research institutes, enhancing their global competitiveness. I hold an MTech in Water Care, with a focus on microbiological water treatment, from Tshwane University of Technology. She obtained her undergraduate degree, majoring in biochemistry and microbiology, from the University of Kwazulu-Natal. Jocelyn's interests revolve around supporting and promoting scientific (Water and Health related) research conducted on the African continent.
