About Jasmine Abrahams:

Strategic and purpose-driven executive with almost 15 years’ experience at the intersection of law, sustainability, and governance in the global mining sector. I bring a rare blend of legal acumen and ESG leadership, with a proven ability to embed ethics, human rights, and sustainability into core business operations – from the boardroom to the community.

As Vice President of Sustainability at Ivanhoe Mines, I lead the development of enterprise-wide ESG strategies, initiatives and disclosures, and serve as Company Secretary of Ivanplats. I also hold governance roles as Donor Trustee of the Bonega Communities Trust. My work is grounded in navigating complex stakeholder environments, from global ESG frameworks and regulatory bodies to community leadership and board-level governance.

I’m passionate about building systems that are ethically sound, culturally intelligent, and future-focused. I have led deeply human processes, including community benefit planning and culturally sensitive resettlement and grave relocation programs, ensuring that decisions are both legally robust and socially responsible.

My leadership is grounded in the belief that sustainable development must deliver shared value, not only for business, but also for people and planet.

Experience

Ivanhoe Mines Limited, Vice-President, Sustainability | Jan 2023 – Present

Ivanhoe Mines is a globally recognised TSX-listed mining company with operations across sub-Saharan Africa and offices in Canada, Beijing, London, and South Africa. As Vice President, I lead Ivanhoe’s Sustainability team with a forward-looking vision that anticipates emerging trends, regulatory shifts, and stakeholder expectations, while driving proactive and innovative approaches to sustainable development. My leadership fosters a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement, anchored in Ivanhoe’s commitment to governance, people, prosperity, and planet as the foundation of our ethos: “Mining with a Greater Purpose.”

  • Architected Ivanhoe’s group-wide ESG strategy, embedding sustainability and people-centred approaches into corporate decision-making to manage risk, unlock long-term value, and strengthen resilience against evolving business impacts and opportunities, positioning the Company as a leader in responsible mining.
  • Built and led a diverse sustainability team from the ground up, driving initiatives spanning safety, organisational culture, human rights, DE&I, local employment, climate resilience, nature stewardship, responsible sourcing, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strengthened Ivanhoe’s global credibility by representing the Company in international forums, including the International Copper Association (ICA’s) Material Stewardship Council, the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative, and the Minerals Council of South Africa’s Charter Reference Group.
  • Enhanced governance and reporting transparency, ensuring timely, accurate ESG disclosures aligned with international frameworks and investor expectations.
  • Championed community impact as a Steering Committee member of the Kamoa Centre of Excellence, a higher education facility built by Ivanhoe to equip the next generation of Congolese leaders.
  • Provided executive leadership in the design and implementation of the Group’s Women in Mining and Gender-Based Violence Strategy, while leading the modernisation of the Platreef Project’s grievance mechanisms to include accessible and confidential digital communication channels.
  • Shaped the Company’s approach to key people priorities, including modern slavery, child labour, talent management, employment equity, employee wellness initiatives, and internal communications.

Appointed Company Secretary for Ivanhoe’s South African mining subsidiary, providing governance oversight and regulatory compliance at board level, as well as Donor Trustee of the Bonega Communities Trust, advancing socio-economic benefits under the Company’s broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) ownership structure.
