Jada Smith

My name is Jada Anda Smith. I have completed my Community service year as a Dietitian at Itemoheng District Hospital in Senekal which is ended the 31st of December 2021. I am currently working as a Clinical dietitian at a private practice, servicing different hospitals in East London. I am originally from East London and conducted my studies at the University of the Western Cape. During my Community service year I have gained a lot of experience that cannot be taught on a theoretical level  as I have worked as a Community, Clinical and Food service dietitian. My key responsibilities are:

● Conduct ward rounds

● Assess patients

● Plan treatment of patients

● Execute the treatment on patients – The treatment plan is implemented and will be monitored daily/weekly/monthly as needed.

● Compile functional reports – Statistics and monthly reports

● Refer problematic cases to the next professional level

● Refer patients to relevant allied health professionals

● Conduct basic office administration

● Health Promotion

● Comply with all protocols and policies within Department of Health.  

● Undergo continuous professional development

● CPD Points during Community Service Year.

● Provide Assistance to Food Service staff – Training and support to food service staff on menus, special diets and basic food service management

● Distribution of Nutrition supplements for in- and outpatients

● Billing

I have learnt to love and respect my profession on a whole new level. The interactions with helping patients and staff at my current job has given me another level of fulfilment for this line of work.  My passion for dietetics stems from my childhood when my father was diagnosed with type two Diabetes. I personally helped learn how to adapt our old way of preparing meals to suit his needs, with the help of his dietitian at the time. I would like to show case the skills that I have learnt theoretically and practically so that I can further help individuals live a healthy and prosperous life. I hope that I may bring a new found passion and drive to your establishment and patients’ lives.

Have 1 years experience as a Community service dietitian. Post community service I started working for a private practice in East London where I provide nutritional support to patients at 4 hospital.
