About me:

Good day,

My name is Ignus Greyling. In 2014, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria. I have worked in various roles since then. I am currently a final year PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) student to teach Senior phase Mathematics and FET phase Business Studies. I am doing my teaching practice at a Cambridge school so that I can learn more about their remarkable curriculum.

In 2018 I decided to follow a dream that I’ve held in my heart for many years, teaching English abroad. I did my 120-hour TEFL certificate at i-To-i LoveTEFL and secured my first teaching job in China. At Hutchin Education, I taught primary school students and a couple of kindergarten classes. I then relocated to Haikou, Hainan, China with my fiancé. Hainan Overseas Chinese Middle School was my next stop. Teaching older students was a fun new challenge for me. I taught senior 1 and senior 2 classes in both functional English in the UK classes and TOEFL preparations in the US classes. Seeing the students improve on their previous TOEFL scores was more than I could ever hope for.

The COVID-19 pandemic restrictions kept my wife and I South Africa-bound shortly after our wedding in February 2020. I then started with online teaching. I recently completed a TESOL and a TEYL course. I am currently teaching online at 51Talk.

I am looking forward to growing my teaching career and I would ravish the opportunity to teach at your school.

Have a great day.

My first position was as a part-time sales assistant, whilst completing my degree, to the top estate agent in the area. My duties were mostly administrative and supportive such as cold calling for leads, following up on buyer inquiries plus I managed to close deals on a new development when I had the chance.

My time as a sales representative developed these skills more as I traveled across South Africa calling on current retailers and targeting new stores within my region. I regularly ran training and motivational sessions for the sales teams with product knowledge as well as sales strategies to help them achieve their full potential. I ran store promotions with the retailer’s sales team to sell products in-store. Being a sales assistant and sales representative taught me how to be customer-focused and so fulfilling their every need and to provide value above all else.

My role as a Business Consultant was truly a high-paced environment to advise clients on best practices from a process point of view and giving my clients solutions to business issues with the Sage X3 ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. The requirements were specific, requiring high attention to detail and the environment was fast-paced with strict deadlines. First, analysis was done to better understand the client’s business processes and functions, before configuring the ERP software system to their specific business processes and migrating their data from their old system with support given after go-live. This role tremendously enhanced my knowledge with regard to business processes, finance, and certain technicalities in the Sage X3 ERP software. I became an internal specialist in the Fixed Assets module within the ERP system.  Furthermore, I have learned to effectively communicate information to customers, employees, and management.

I then moved abroad to gain intercultural knowledge and experience. Being an ESL teacher has taught me to work with people across language and culture barriers and it allowed me to travel to three different continents in one year. After the lockdown lifted, I went back to real estate and sold 24 units in my short tenure of 6 months. I also managed the social media accounts and website of a tutoring business as well as an estate agent’s social media. I recently consulted a construction company in the Garden Route on their branding, social media, website, and marketing plan whilst also teaching English online and studying towards my PGCE qualification.
