I am currently working as a GIS specialist intern at Dinokeng Game Reserve. My job entails the collection, managing, manipulation and retrieval of Geospatial data of the game reserve using Esri ArcGIS Pro Desktop.

09/04/2024 - To date GIS Specialist Intern Key Responsibilities include, gathering, managing, and maintaining of spatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, surveys, and geographic databases.  Create maps, charts, spreadsheets, and visualizations to represent spatial data and communicate insights effectively to stakeholders and the reserve management.  Analyze spatial data to identify patterns, trends, relationships. Perform tasks such as site selection, network analysis, and suitability modeling.  Utilize GIS software and tools such as ArcGIS Pro Desktop and Google Earth Pro to perform data analysis, create Maps, and manage geographic information of the reserve.  Develop and maintain spatial databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity and accessibility.  Plan and execute GIS projects, including Proclamation, updating of Self-drive Route map, creation of Servitude map, creation of Fire break map, creation of Alien plant treatment map and Biodiversity monitoring grid map.  Working with various stakeholders including private land owners, Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), Working On Fire, and Reserve Management to provide GIS support and integrate spatial data into decision-making processes in the game reserve.
