Fortunate Mpumi

My name is Nompumelelo Ndubane and I am 22 years old currently residing in Rivonia Sandton and I am a specialist wellness counsellor graduated from Humanitas Counselling. My goal as a specialist wellness counsellor is to help my clients navigate through difficulties in their life and relationships while providing a safe place to heal, explore, develop insight, practice healthy coping skills, integrate and take responsibility for their changes. I facilitate a process where the client is able to move towards healing, self-acceptance, and to ultimately grow and thrive in a supportive environment. I will meet my clients each step of the way in their therapy process with compassion and empathy.

My approach is collaborative, honest, challenging and direct with solid boundaries and empathy. I reflect, assist, encourage and point out in-congruent patterns around actions and words. I will not work harder than my clients or accept responsibility for their choices. I can only advise and guide clients while facilitating the therapeutic process but I respect my client’s decisions as I believe that they are the experts of their own life and are fully capable of creating the life that they want with support and tools.

I was enrolled in a counseling course program at the Centurion-based Humanitas Training Center. The counseling program gave me the opportunity to gain real-world experience. In person classes helped me understand more about these counselling modules, which largely covered the basics of counseling, attachment and child development, crisis management, addiction and substance misuse, and working with adult sexual assault survivors. I have the chance to learn more about counseling techniques and how to use them through these programs.
   I was volunteering at Resthaven. I mostly work with children and the elderly. I primarily do activities with the elderly to make them feel content and to remind them of the things they used to do when they were younger. I believe that this primarily makes them feel secure and does not make them feel neglected, as I also communicate with them and they open up about their lives and their childhoods, which is practically interesting because it also helps me learn more about them and how they think and feel.
   I also mostly work with children and teens; I perform more counseling with them as a method of knowing what challenges they are currently facing, and I can also primarily provide guidance when necessary. I primarily visit Tutela Family Care for the purpose of giving counselling services to clients in need, and majority of the clients have histories of sexual abuse, traumatic childhood experiences, relationship and family problems, as well as the need for grief counseling after losing a loved one. It is primarily my responsibility to motivate clients to adopt actions that will lead to a higher quality of life, to use interpersonal skills to establish a helping relationship, to use counseling tools and techniques to support, encourage, and debrief a client in need, and to and to use health and wellness knowledge in a counseling context.

I have a Honors degree in Psychology I graduated at Varsity College and I completed the degree In 2022
