About Edmore Shamu:

As a SHEQ Officer, my primary objective is to impart the fullest of my abilities in ensuring that all the people involved in the company comply with the health, safety, and environmental protocols. My 18 years of experience as HSE Officer has broadened my understanding and enhanced my skills in conducting risk assessment programs as well as developing risk mitigating methods. Among my aims is to ensure that every employee is well-equipped to respond to emergencies by designing and conducting regular drills. I also aspire to constantly improve my administrative abilities and cultivate the safest working environment possible for all. 

Experience

  • Ensured all legal appointments are current, signed and kept on file
  • Chaired monthly safety meeting
  • Received and review completed monthly stacking surveys, representative safety inspections, job observations and toolbox talks and file
  • Ensured that all required permits are applied for within the required time and are up to date
  • Informed the training/human resources department of training requirements for OHSACT and management systems
  • Investigated any incidents/accidents with team members, prepared and distributed investigation reports within the required time frame
  • Reported IODs to the Department of Labour & complete all relevant documentation, investigations, claims etc.
  • Attended to inspection and maintenance of all fire equipment including required servicing

Management System

  • Compiled and distributed toolbox talks to all departments
  • Issued non-conformance reports and coordinated action on non-conformances
  • Liaised with departments to ensure that all MSDS are current and kept on file in areas of use
  • Liaised with contract managers to ensure compliance with contractor procedure
  • Compiled safety files for contractors under your control
  • Audited all contractor files & perform site visits
  • Updated system procedure, work instructions and records when required
  • Prepared presentations and minutes of safety and SHE-management meetings
  • Drew up a frequency chart for required items, such as inspections, testing, etc and updated it when completed
  • Attended/completed external customer audits and surveys when requested
  • Ensured regular testing of equipment related to emergency preparedness
  • Ensured all measuring devices are calibrated against set intervals
  • Updated display boards, notices and signs
  • Conducted internal audits in line with required standards and protocols
  • Followed up on non-conformances raised during internal, external and legal audits, surveys, and third-party, and customer audits to ensure compliance with legal, management systems and customer requirements.
  • Prepared management review presentations, presented reviews and distribute minutes.
  • Drew up annual objectives for all relevant Standards with the approval of the various departmental heads and monitor progress monthly & feedback to KPI leaders.
  • Ensured accurate reporting and capturing of monthly EMS & H&S data on Mpres

Training

  • Conducted annual inductions with employees, and contractors regarding SHE requirements
  • Attended to emergency preparedness and arrange for evacuation, fire and other drills and issued reports on such
  • Complete the Competency and Training matrix for SHEQ with input from line management and HR.
  • Assisted with internal training where necessary for personnel.

 

Reporting

  • Monitored usage of water, electricity, Heavy furnace oil, waste
  • Distributed reports on the progress of non-conformances weekly
  • Compiled required information for the Divisional office reporting system and input correct data by the due date on Mpres and any other platforms e.g. Smart sheets
  • Compiled a month-end report for SHE and distribute
  • Chaired monthly SHE Committee meetings
  • Ensured that risk assessments are in place for ALL activities & that supervisors train their teams on their applicable risk assessments
  • Ensured that the impact & aspects register is kept up to date and relevant staff trained on it

Other functions

  • Oversaw pickups and disposal of waste, check and signed off
  • Assisted line management with SHE issues

Diploma in Education (Metal Work and Geography), 1986-1989/ University of Zimbabwe, Harare

BA. Honours Geography 2012-2014, University of South Africa, Pretoria.
