Assisting in meeting the daily needs of patients and in the provision of physical and emotional care as well as personal and health care.
Assisting patients to gain confidence in the performance of their day to day self-care chores and helping to promote the physical and personal independence of clients.
Keeping up to date records on patients, including daily observations about activities and any medication administered.
Assisting clients with all Personal Care including managing of pressure sores.
Helping patients with their toileting needs, including –
o Bladder/Bowel Care (Manual Evacuation)
o Catheter Care (Supra Pubic, Foley and Conveen Urisheath)
o Colostomy Care/Stoma Care
o Continence Promotion
Use appropriate infection control procedures to maintain a healthy and safe working environment. Segregating and disposing of waste materials.
Instructing patients on Health Matters/Personal Habits to do with hygiene and diet.
Preparing Food and also serving meals, drinks and refreshments.
Making the best use of aids provided to help clients who have –
o Limited Mobility (using Sliding Boards/Hoists for manual transfers)
o Physical/Learning difficulties
Helping to organize/participate in Recreational Activities to create a stimulating environment.
Able to identify signs of emotional or developmental problems. Talking to clients and listening sympathetically to their problems.
Providing support to relatives and friends.
Experience of caring for –
o Spinal Injury Clients (C2, C3/C4 and C5/C6)
o Clients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Cerebral Palsy (CP)
o Patients with Mood and Anxiety Disorders (Bipolar I & II, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
o Elderly patients, some with Parkinson Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), Dementia and challenging behaviour
o Palliative Care
o Children with Special Needs, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Angelman Syndrome (AS), Epilepsy and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
