Christiaan Van Zyl

My name is Christiaan van Zyl and I was a Postgraduate in Management (specialising in Sport Management) student at the University of Cape Town. I obtained my National Diploma in Sport Management at CPUT in 2019 and my Advanced Diploma in Event Management in 2020. I am a driven, hard-working individual who always strives to perform his best and gives it his all. I believe there are no limits to what one can achieve. I have been in love with sport for a very long time and sport is my passion. I have an excellent knowledge of most sport. Over the past 5 years I have acquired the necessary skills to broaden my knowledge of the sport industry, for example, management, marketing, finance, events management, etc. I strive to have a career in any of these areas and more in the sport management industry. My personal skills include clear and assertive communication, highly organized and detail oriented, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, people management and as already mentioned I am a highly driven individual.
I have previous experience in working and organizing events. The CPUT 2nd year Sport Management group organized an event for the association for people with disabilities. The event was a huge success. In 2020, the CPUT Advanced Diploma in Event Management group organized a Women’s Health Fit Night Out event. The purpose of the event was to get more women (22-40) active in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England. The Women’s Health Fit Night Out was going to be held in Coventry, England, UK. With both events, I used my event and sport management skills that I obtained over the first four years at CPUT. This highlights my experience in working and managing events.
Last year the UCT students had the privilege of attending a guest lecture with Phillip Mkorongo from Live Company Sport and Entertainment, as part of the Live Company Group. I really learned a lot from Phillip about how the industry works. My first job with the Two Oceans Marathon helped me establish data analysis skills, project management and furthered my sport management and event management skills. In 2020 I also conducted a project management course to help me with events, because project management and event management is interlinked.
What value can I add to the company? It would be an honour and a privilege to work with any team at the company. I would really take pride in the possible opportunity of working with the
team. I can bring value to the organization with the necessary skills that I obtained from CPUT and UCT over the past 5 years. I am a team player and love to work with other people. I can also bring leadership skills if management requires me to work in a team. I can bring value to the respective areas of stakeholder engagement and experience, media & marketing, event operations, sponsor activation, brand amplification, social impact, and elite athlete management support.
I am a person who lives by the values of making people happy and making a difference in people’s lives. I would love to be involved with the company and the scope carried out across the world, from world-class sporting events to endless entertainment opportunities. I believe I can add to the values of the company and the organizational culture.
