About Bronwen MacKellar:

I am a versatile editor,  working in many areas.  I am deadline driven and can deliver high-quality programmes with a quick turnaround.  I love storytelling and consider this my strength, but I also really enjoy creating graphics with Photoshop and After Effects.

Experience

In my years as a freelancer, I have cut a wide variety of things, including the car magazine show on SABC 3 “Car Torque” for Hooper Productions and a long run editing for “Craze” children’s show on e-TV for Red Pepper Pictures.  I also edited the show covering the National Arts Festival for 4 years under enormous pressure as well as numerous corporates, commercials and all sorts of TV shows.

In 2010 I edited my first drama series, eps 4 and 6 of “Wild at Heart” Season 7 for ITV, UK directed by Darrell Roodt, an experience I really enjoyed.

For the better part of 2012 and 2013, I worked for Engage Entertainment on their stable of shows including “Psalted”, a contemporary gospel music show, ”The Edition”, a news/opinion magazine show for eTV, “Inner City Castles”, an hour-long documentary and corporates for Old Mutual South Africa and Gordon Institute for Business Science.

In 2014 I took on SA Kitchen Queens at the last minute.  It was a very challenging job working on an original format reality show, but we managed to be the highest-rated local reality show on at the time.

In 2015, I had the opportunity to stitch and online one of Africa's biggest new reality series, The Voice Angola.  I also offlined for The Voice South Africa.

2016 granted me the great pleasure of working with Gary King and Jane Kennedy on the unusual reality show Gogglebox.  This has been a career highlight! This was followed by the 2nd season of “The Great South African Bake Off” produced by Rapid Blue.  In the last two months of the year, I helped finish up the telenovela “Greed and Desire”, which was a fabulous re-introduction to drama storytelling.

In the first half of 2017, I put this into good use editing the 26-part drama series “Fifty” directed by Akin Omotosho for Ebony Life TV, Nigeria.  It was a wonderful opportunity for me, not only in increasing my drama portfolio but also to work with the wonderfully talented cast and amazing director.

In 2018 I took on the third season of “The Great South African Bake Off”.  And followed that up with an original concept game show for Nigeria.  Original concept shows are very challenging as you are constantly problem-solving.  The show was very well received.

2019 was full of corporate work and commercials for Brand EtAl as well as an episode of Come Dine With Me and First Dates South Africa for Rapid Blue and some work on the Voice SA for Black Swan.

2020 was a rewarding time working as head editor on the South African version of the Australian Reality series, Single Wives for Black Swan Media and MNet.  A show following six previously married women getting back to dating and relationships with the help of two life coaches.

2021 has been a busy time working on many corporate communications and commercials.  I am also working on a lovely SABC series looking into relationships of South African Celebrities called “Celebrated Love” for Blue Zone Media.

2022 has proved to be the year of commercials with ads for Nivea and Prodigious, Kotex for Ogilvy and social media shorts for Plascon. For the last part of the year, I was very lucky to work remotely with an international company, Screen Scene Ireland, on the hot new game show for Fox USA “I Can See Your Voice” from the same team as the “Masked Singer”.  Working with the US production team was interesting, their commitment to perfection was inspiring.

2023 has seen me working on commercials and corporate videos through Fivestar Media and General Post Productions after completing my stint on “I Can See Your Voice”.
