Awethu Putumani

Hello there! I'm Awethu Putumani from South Africa. A teacher by profession. I have 4 years of teaching experience in Foundation phase (grade 2 and 4). One of my roles and responsibilities as a teacher is to create a safe environment for the kids which allows effective teaching ad learning to occur. For the past 4 years I managed to do that with the assist of  senior teachers. One of the common challenge in South African schools is the issue of big numbers in class. I had 38 learner with a tiny space of classroom. However, with the use of technology and other ideas I developed I have managed my classes and made sure that my lessons are inclusive to accommodate my class as a whole. I love children. I love meeting new people and learning from others. My ultimate goal is to develop the education system of my country. In order to achieve that I need to have a taste of other systems of education.

It has been an astonishing journey with good memories. I find kids so loving and kind. Further, there has been a lot of challenges as well. Where I had to repeat lessons over and over. I have personally developed not only as a professional teacher but as individual as well. I learnt to be more patient, sensitive, bold, and mostly allowing kids to be free. One of the challenge I have not yet overcome is managing time well with the lessons. 

I hold bachelor's degree in education from Rhodes University. For the past 4 years I have been teaching in primary school, being a homeroom teacher. Currently, I'm enrolled with University of Pretoria for my post-graduate degree in curriculum.
