Aadam Rawoot

My name is Aadam Rawoot.

I am a confident, team-worker and am always willing to help more.  I am very motivated and is flexible when needed. 

I am currently awaiting graduation of my Masters at the University of the Western Cape. I’ve completed both my BSc degree and BSc Honours in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology which included courses comprising of ecology and physiology of animals and plants, data application and analysis in R, Mapping with DIVA- GIS and Idrisi Selva, genetic analysis using Mr Bayes, editing DNA base pairs with Bio-edit and using Microsoft office when completing presentations and synthesizing numerical data . I also performed tasks in the field such as data capturing, observations and laboratory tasks and experiments and then composing written reports. I have also been an assistant in various faunal surveys in the Cape Flats Nature Reserve and Koeberg Nature Reserve.

I also have years of hands-on experience working with animals and handling them as many of my courses required me to not only study these creatures, but also take measurements for data capturing when tasked with understanding their biology. 

I have spent 6 months working as an intern for Dr Adriaan Engelbrecht. My duties comprised of genetics analysis and synthesis of DNA using a PCR machine. During this time, I also conducted fieldwork where I was tasked with the trapping of small mammals using Sherman traps. This aided further genetic studies of their mites and the interaction they have as host, parasite, and their co-evolution together throughout time. I have also done genetic studies on marine copepods and their DNA. I have attended SEAmester run by the University of the Western Cape. I have completed a course in bioinformatics as well as taken on roles as tutor and assisted with regards to DIVA and GIS/IDRISI done by final years in biodiversity and conservation biology under Dr Richard Knight. I was also a tutor at CPUT, where I worked for Ms Jaffer in Conservation and Communication studies.
