We are seeking a Marketing & Communication Manager, responsible for leading the communication and marketing strategy for Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa (MRoA), with the strategic objective of deepening client relationships and achieving business goals and growth missions.


Your Business Unit:


Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, MRoA, you will manage a small team to develop and implement the corporate communication and marketing strategy for MRoA.

You will manage key senior stakeholder relationships including the CEO, and executive leadership team in country and have a matrix reporting line to the Head of Marketing & Communication, APAC, based in Singapore.


Your Job:

You will be responsible for supporting MRoA in achieving its business strategy through managing and promoting the Munich Re brand and marketing presence on the African continent, as well as supporting the people strategy and enabling employee engagement through compelling digital content, campaigns, thought leadership and the delivery of impactful messaging, with the following deliverables:

  • Define and develop the marketing and communication strategy, plan and activities in alignment with MRoA's business objectives and growth ambition.
  • Interpret business needs, consulting business unit leaders and client management heads, and advise on and propose the most effective communication tactics to meet specific objectives.
  • Lead marketing projects and coordinate (internal and external) resources to deliver high quality, innovative marketing solutions ontime and within budget.
  • Develop marketing materials such as brochures, newsletters, advertisements, videos, presentations and digital content targeted to clients and prospects.
  • Manage and coordinate event strategies to raise visibility of the business teams and help them spend quality time with clients and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with Munich Re's marketing experts in Asia Pacific to create and manage digital campaigns and analytics to effectively convey core messages.
  • Lead internal communication in a purposeful and integrated manner through partnering with business on various initiatives, which include, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Supporting the MRoA senior leadership team communication (assist crafting messaging for updates, town hall presentations, speeches, videos, etc)
  • Design internal events (virtual, face to face and hybrid) that enhance the engagement of employees, position leaders, meet business needs and enable successful change.
  • Sharing of successes through the appropriate internal channels (MR Web, town hall meetings, Yammer etc)
  • Collaborate with regional Communications teams to ensure that strategic Group messages are embedded in South Africa.
  • Ensure that communication and marketing initiatives, promotions and activities are tracked and measured to determine their ROI and success.

Your Profile:


  • 8 to 10 years of experience in marketing and communication roles, with 3 to 5 years of experience in a management role
  • Degree holder in Communication or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in marketing and communication in the financial services sector, with experience working for a multinational an added advantage
  • Excellent writing skills and project management
  • Detail oriented with the ability to connect the dots
  • Ability to work independently, with senior stakeholders across a matrixed structure
  • Leadership abilities, more notably the ability to motivate and inspire excellence and to lead with empathy.
  • Passion for bringing the discipline of simplicity and continuous improvement to all aspects of work.
