Job Summary:


Primarily responsible for driving AHF Vehicles and ensure that program vehicles are in good condition to deliver services at the required locations, coordinate all transport activities and assist in the day to day logistics activities required by the organization.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety standards during transportation of staff, drugs and laboratory specimens (where required).
  • Ensures timely transportation for the admin offices, roving team, clinics, and programs when needed.
  • Works out a schedule for vehicle movement in collaboration with the relevant staff that is accommodative of all staff needs for transportation.
  • Picks up, drops off, and delivers documents, quotes, invoices, financial reports, logístical requirements and at times cash for all AHF programs (where required).
  • Picks up and drops off AHF guests from/to the airport or from any other point of departure.
  • Maintains vehicle logbook, accounting for all mileage and fuel consumption/ costs, minimizes fuel cost and does not permit anyone to drive the vehicle, unless authorized to do.
  • Before moving the vehicle, check that the vehicle is up to date with all license registration. Where the license registration expiry is approaching, inform the Operations Manager to initiate the renewal processes.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle including daily cleaning inside and weekly (minimum) car wash.
  • Maintains vehicle in good mechanical order and submits weekly log sheets to support this.
  • Report mechanical condition of the vehicles and repairs/replacements required to the Operations Manager who will engage with service providers and arrange any repairs/replacements immediately.
  • Inform the Operations Manager in good time to schedule the vehicle service. With the Operations Manager ensures that organization's vehicles are always serviced on time.
  • Ensure that vehicles are well fueled prior to any journey and timely provides respective Administration Officer with copies of the fuel invoices for the monthly fuel reconciliation report.
  • Ensure that vehicle under his/her care is secured from loss or damage at all times and that the vehicles are securely parked while not on duty.

  • Observes the nonsmoking rule in the vehicle at all times.
  • Follow organizational procedures and risk reduction strategies to prevent vehicle theft and hijacking.
  • Drives safely and responsibly at all times, must be knowledgeable about, and comply with South African driving / traffic and parking rules & regulations.
  • Where there are deviations to the traffic laws and found responsible for the deviation, take on personal liability for the fine payment within stipulated timeframe.
  • Be responsible for incident and accident reporting where there has been an incident or accident.
  • Assist in stores processes to receive and issue stocks of Prevention and Testing programs (when required).
  • Assist in the distribution of commodities like condoms, test kits and any medical consumables (when required).
  • Carry out other duties as assigned from time to time.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Ability to speak fluent in English;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to deal with a 'difficult client'.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:


  • Matriculation (Logistics and procurement diploma an added advantage) and one to three months related experience and/or training related to driving and road safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous driving employment at least 2 years uninterrupted.
  • Must have a Valid Driver's license, held consecutively for at least 5 years.
  • PDP is an added advantage.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:


  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos;
  • Ability to write simple correspondence;

Education:


  • High School (matric) (required)

Experience:


  • Driving: 5 years (required)

Language:


  • English (required)

License/Certification:

  • Valid code 10 driving licence (required)
  • PDP (required)
