ABOUT DE BEERS MARINE:

De Beers Marine (DBM) is based in Cape Town, South Africa and is part of the De Beers group.

Activities managed include Marine exploration, geophysical surveys, sampling, mining, ship conversion, upgrades and maintenance, large project management, engineering design and mining system equipment builds.

DBM executes industry leading R&D in marine mining practices resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally.


Job Description:


  • The successful incumbent's primary function would be efficient navigation, watchkeeping and positioning of the vessel to achieve efficient vessel, mining or sampling operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:


  • To carry out bridge watch keeping duties, controls deck operations, maintains Company policies and procedures; coordinate human resources and enforces the company safety, health and environmental systems.
  • Monitors and controls radar, radio communications, weather, traffic, helicopter operations, mining/ sampling operations and other vessel operations.
  • Maintains the ship radio and log books to company and legal requirements when watchkeeping.
  • Update Deck, Environmental and Garbage log books.
  • Controls the safety of the vessel whilst on watchkeeping duty.
  • Operates winches while on watch and during spread laying.
  • Conducts inport duties when vessel is inport.
  • Conducts anchor watch as required.
  • Tests navigation and radio equipment.
  • Maintains the vessel Life Saving Appliances and other safety equipment.
**Qualifications

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
  • Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma in Marine studies (T3) plus a valid Deck Officer Certificate of Competency.
  • 3 years' experience as 2nd Navigating Officer is an advantage

  • Good interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
