  • Produce newsworthy sports stories that are wellresearched, accurate, balanced and well written and ready for publication across multiple editorial platforms.
  • Have excellent writing skills and the ability to write a wide range of sports stories including, but not limited to match reports, features and human interest features.
  • Establish and maintain a strong network of contacts.
  • Use social media to drive readership.
  • Produce pictures, audio and or videos for the Cape Community Media online platforms.
  • Use social media to break news and engage with online audience.
  • Generate ideas for unique story packages and community focus and reader engagement.
  • Manage a personal diary and initiate stories.
  • Subedit stories to comply with legal, style and space requirements; and layout pages to meet weekly production deadlines.
  • Meet the deadline demands of the title.
  • Any other function as and when required.

Requirements:


  • Must have a tertiary qualification in journalism or equivalent.
  • Three years proven journalistic experience, including writing and subediting in English, photography and layout.
  • Excellent command of English and sound understanding of the principles of subediting
  • Ability to lay out pages using Adobe InDesign
  • Must be familiar with the communities covered by the paper and have a wide range of contacts there
  • Must have a valid drivers licence.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with high level contacts
  • Must be able to think creatively and be a selfstarter who shows initiative and ability can independently.
  • Be highly flexible, sometimes having to working long, irregular hours, nightshift, weekends and public holidays
  • The ability to work under pressure
