Main purpose of job

Directs, organizes, monitors, and manages the overall operation of the power supply (Including Solar), the production and distribution of utilities (steam, water reservoirs, natural gas, 11KV/400V electrical systems, all sewer/effluent systems, compressed air, Ammonia Plant

  • Chilled Water), the maintenance of these systems, facility maintenance operations (Factory and Site buildings, HVAC system, Fire Protection systems), manages site security perimeters, the contracted Facilities services (Effluent plant, Water Treatment) and the Sustainability (energy, water) Management program.

Key accountabilities:

  • Support the site's OEE targets by the provision of 100% site services and utility availability.
  • Effectively manage the operation and maintenance of Utilities to reduce the likelihood of a significant disruption of utilities (i.e. HVAC heating and cooling, electricity, water, compressed air, natural gas, steam generation, Ammonia Plant) provided to the site and assures aroundtheclock responsiveness to mechanical failures or emergency situations, remaining available for oncall technical support for emergency responses.
  • Develop KPIs which demonstrate the correlation between Facilities provision and Utilities effectiveness to Production line performance.
  • Coordinates and sometimes directly supervises utility outages and the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on site utilities and facilities.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, manages and review the work of subordinates/contractors responsible for facility and utilities maintenance.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing facility and utilities maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures; participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for the performance of employees in the area of responsibility by reviewing work in the field and evaluating the quality of the work performed.
  • Manage the provision of outsourced services (effluent plant operation, Fire Protection services, Garden services, Ammonia Plant, HVAC etc.) to achieve agreed service/performance levels.
  • Leading the site utilities sustainability agenda by way of developing Stewardship teams to drive continuous improvement on utilities usages and performance across the site.
  • Ensure that all buildings are safe for the occupants and full fills the needs of functions being carried out in that building i.e. Ergonomics and service.
  • Ensure that all utilities standby/backup systems (Solar Power, air compressor, water tanks, boilers) and facilities are fully functional.
  • Develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and utilities equipment.
  • Manage construction projects, facilities upgrades, and other special projects as well as assist in the preparation of various contracts, requests for proposals, and reports.
  • Train or coordinate training in facility and utilities maintenance and safety methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in the preparation and administration of the facility and utilities maintenance budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures; prepare cost estimates; submit justifications for equipment; monitor budget expenditures as agreed by Manager.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the field of facility maintenance; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs

Experience and qualifications required:

  • B-Tech in Engineering Qualification
  • Degree in mechanical/Electrical engineering would be advantageous.


  • GCC

  • Factories Would be advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years Utilities or Facilities or both management experience ideally in a FMCG environment
  • Minimum 5 years in a FMCG manufacturing or operational or engineering role.
  • 23 Years Ammonia Refrigeration Plant Experience.
  • People management (Team, stakeholders)

  • Experience of continuous improvement/QA/lean manufacturing methodology and implementation.
  • Knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of utilities equipment
