Description

We are looking for a well-organised, creative, and competent Video Journalist to join Feel SA's multimedia online team to plan, research, produce daily news stories that are relevant for online English speaking audiences, and to capture high-quality and appealing visuals for the online channel.

We're looking for someone who will be able to identify a news angle and then produce and package a high quality video story.

Journalist competencies
Research and planning
Checking electronic media (wires and online), articles of interest in newspapers and studying overseas media.
Arranging and preparing for interviews.
Conducting preliminary telephonic and follow-up probing interviews.
Brief cameraman and interviewees on topics beforehand. Screening functions, events for possible newsworthy items.
Have the ability to come up with unique story angles.
Identifying stories through research, sourcing and networking.
Contributing story ideas to the daily and forward planning diaries.
Writing final copy of news stories. Laying voice on tape and present on camera
Directing video editor to cut pictures according to storyline, editing pictures and notes
Multimedia and online
- send images and videos from the field to the social media assistant to increase the social media output,, using the designated handle and hashtags
Footage and any good interviews can be used by social media assistant as soon as the visuals are ingested. Reporter to facilitate this.
Video editor competencies
Working knowledge of the technical operations and functions of the ENG camera, tripod, lights, microphones, and cables.
Demonstrable ability to work under extreme pressure
Assembling and setting up of all equipment
Passionate and interested about news
Valid driver's license and own vehicle
Excellent computer literacy and understanding of Microsoft Office and Google products
Proficiency with editing software
Excellent interpersonal skills
Proficiency with camera equipment and sound
Responding quickly to directions
Creatively framing and capturing action
Journalist key performance indicators
News stories relevant for online audiences, planned and researched efficiently on a daily basis.
Content meets the editorial standards and requirements of Feel SA at all times
Story deadlines are met.
Communication between the reporter, cameraman and other members of the editorial team is done in a respectful and professional manner to produce the best results for the bulletin


Camera operator > requirements:

Need to have a qualification in broadcast/online


Languages:
business english

Excellent communication and time management skills


Experience:
minimum of five years in broadcast/technical operations or a similar position in the media department
Solid visual skills
Exceptional knowledge of filming and capturing footage
Experience in operating camera/film equipment
Ability to work long/flexible working hours
Excellent hand-eye coordination abilities
Extraordinary attention to detail


Filming responsibilities include:

Filming news events and recording audio material to be edited and packaged for news broadcasts
Planning, preparing, and developing the visual presentation of the story, in conjunction with the reporter assigned to the story
Ensuring the principles of visual storytelling are applied through aesthetically pleasing and technically correct compositions, angles, and camera movements and making sure to deliver images with the correct exposure and color saturation
Assemble and position all equipment
Conducting interviews by asking probing questions that are in line with the story's brief
Ensuring the correct use of lighting and sound recording techniques in accordance with prescribed broadcast standards
Create and edit film as per brief and requirements
Collaborate with the team to determine all aspects of shots
Resolve any technical or practical issues that may arise
Provide suggestions and recommendations of angles and movements to get the best effects
Provide practical and creative input to scene planning and arrangements
Take into consideration technical aspects such as light, camera film, lenses, and filters to achieve desired effects/output
