**ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ PROFESSOR IN ICHTHYOLOGY AND FISHERIES SCIENCE AT RHODES UNIVERSITY

Main Objectives:


Academics are expected to assume administrative, management, and leadership duties at the Departmental, Faculty, and University level and contribute to their profession.


In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement, as well as contribute towards the governance of the institution.

This leadership contribution of the Associate Professor and Professor should be evident at the departmental, Faculty, and institutional levels.

The incumbent is expected to take on the role of Head of Department when needed and must be willing to assume these responsibilities.


The requirements
The job requirements at each level are specified below:

Associate Professor

  • At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture or equivalent.
  • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in teaching and research in aquaculture and fisheries science is required. Ichthyology would be beneficial.
  • Research supervision of Master's and PhD degrees to completion required.
  • An established national and an emerging international profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publication and research grant acquisition.
  • Proven track record of administration, management, and leadership roles in teaching, assessment, research, and community engagement.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining national and international partners and collaborators.

Professor

  • At least a PhD in Fisheries Science or Aquaculture or equivalent.
  • Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in teaching and research in aquaculture and fisheries science is required. Ichthyology would be beneficial.
  • Research supervision of Master's and PhD degrees to completion required.
  • International profile in the discipline.
  • Extensive track record of research publication and research grant acquisition.
  • Proven track record of administration, management, and leadership roles in teaching, assessment, research, and community engagement.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining national and international partners and collaborators.

Remuneration per annum:


Associate Professor:


Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:
R 887,318.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R1,138,361.00


Professor:


Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:
R1,086,915.00

Cost to Company per annum (approximately): R1,385,804.00

Rhodes University has a vaccination mandate as part of its Conditions of Service. The implementation of the vaccine mandate has been held in abeyance from 01 January 2023.

Should the COVID-19 situation change in a way that the number of cases of COVID-19 pose a threat to the University, the implementation of the Vaccine Mandate will be re-activated and all staff would be required to be fully vaccinated.
