PURPOSE OF POSITION:


The Project Manager for the proposed Wesco Waste Management Facility Development will be responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing the various workstreams of the project to ensure the project is delivered on time, within scope and budget.

The Project Manager will plan and designate project resources, manage budgets, monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed throughout the project.

The Project Manager will assist in building a local team for the project development and work with both local and international teams to develop the project.

The Project Manager will also assist with technical, commercial and market analysis support.


RESPONSIBILITES RELATING TO KEY PERFORMANCE AREA

Project Management
***- Assist with coordinating internal resources and third parties/stakeholders for the execution of the project and its multiple workstreams

  • Assist in compiling and updating project scope and objectives, involving all relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Maintain and update a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Proactively report and escalate any key issues or risks to management
  • Maintain and review risk matrix with project team
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/contractors/ suppliers / stakeholders
  • Maintain and update stakeholder map and engagement plan
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Meet with workstream owners and third parties to clarify specific requirements of each project and track progress
  • Develop presentations, spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps for document and reporting requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Technical support for Town Planning, ESIA and Waste Solutions

  • Manage town planning process in line with ESIA and development requirements
  • Support ESIA through revision and management of certain technical aspects such as specialist studies, geotechnical and geohydrological assessments and engineering and design processes.

Stakeholder Management and Market Analysis

  • Maintain and update the project stakeholder map and assist in building relationships and engaging with key stakeholders;
  • Support commercial development of project by providing market insights on waste volumes and types for both private companies and municipalities existing price levels for each waste category & recent price evolutions
  • Identify waste generators, who is managing the waste and what is being done with it i.e. treatment, recovery, disposal
  • Amount & list of waste without a proper solution today (eg. liquid waste going to landfill...)
  • Some background on the sustainability of the industrial activity per customer/sector, as well as any information like their ties to competition and our ability to reach them on a commercial ground.
  • Assist with compiling a map of waste handling, treatment, recovery and disposal facilities within CoCT as well as nearby municipalities. Include where possible licenses, waste volumes etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, waste management or similar
  • Proven working experience in project management.
  • Excellent clientfacing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with project management software tools
  • Experience in developing and managing waste treatment / disposal facility projects.
  • Sound understanding of SA Waste Regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proven experience of managing a wide variety of stakeholders in both private and public sectors
  • Relationship building and management expertise.
  • Good understanding of SA waste market with specific experience working in and around the City of Cape Town
  • Market analysis and commercial experience.
  • Requirement for travel between Cape Town and Johannesburg.
  • At least 10 years proven experience in waste management industry
