Manager Communications and Marketing (Grade 16)

Division of Communications and Advancement

Main Objectives
To support the overall divisional strategy by executing and monitoring the communications and marketing strategy.

To support the Director by giving input into the conceptualization of the divisional strategy and providing specialist input with regards to communications and marketing.

To lead and manage the communications and marketing section and to enhance strategic information flow, institutional brand equity, strengthen and elevate Rhodes University's prestige.


The requirements
A three-year tertiary qualification (NQF level 7) in Journalism and Media Studies, Marketing, Communication, or equivalent plus approximately 7 years' relevant experience where such experience includes:

  • At least 5 years' experience in previous experience in the development, implementation, and management of marketing strategies
  • Previous experience in branding management and promotion with measurable results
  • At least 3 years' management experience
  • Previous experience working with senior management in an organisation, where strategic input has been required

Remuneration per annum (Grade 16):

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:
R704 274

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R920 080

Rhodes University has a vaccination mandate as part of its Conditions of Service. The implementation of the vaccine mandate has been held in abeyance from 01 January 2023.

Should the COVID-19 situation change in a way that the number of cases of COVID-19 pose a threat to the University, the implementation of the Vaccine Mandate will be re-activated and all staff would be required to be fully vaccinated.
