Role purpose:

This varied role will support the ME: Group Compliance in the delivery of a robust risk based Anti

  • Financial Crime (AML, ABC and Sanctions) programme for Vodacom Group. This includes supporting the implementation of all proactive and reactive activities required to ensure that the business has a robust and fit for purpose antimoney laundering and anti
- financial crime compliance programme which demonstrates effective and transparent management of risk within local markets and compliance with all relevant legislation and international standards. The role is a key part of the second level of defence in the Vodacom Group Compliance programme. The role covers a broad range of licenced and regulated fintech and mobile financial services in Africa, including insurance, consumer credit, payments, and mobile money.


Your responsibilities will include:


Anti-Financial Crime

To support the ME:
Group Compliance in designing and implementing a digitally-led Anti-Financial Crime Programme encompassing all Vodacom financial products and services.


This will include:

Guide, oversee and provide strategic direction on the adoption and implementation of effective systems, technologies and processes to ensure compliance with all ant-financial crime laws, anti-money laundering (AML) and regulations, policies, and best practices;
Designing a digitally-led programme controls to address Group Policies and regulatory requirements, future national and international developments, and risks identified in the risk assessment;
Overseeing and ensuring risk assessments are conducted across the business including preparing and reporting a summary of key money laundering related risks;
Working with a variety of teams including partner markets, regulatory, legal, and local markets to identify AML and Financial Crime risks and agree on actions;
Overseeing and supporting the integrated assurance program and being recognized support for the internal audit team;
Active involvement in industry bodies;

Monitoring and reporting
Oversee and undertake regular 2nd line assessments (including in market) of current compliance status and establish monitoring and review mechanisms to ensure compliance with policies and procedures;

Collate data and KPI's for review and reporting as required including preparation of the annual AML report and other governance reports.


Anti-Financial Crime & AML Community
Support development of Anti-Financial Crime & AML community, building connections and sharing best practices;
Keep the community up to date with new developments in the field of expertise.


Training
Work with local market teams to ensure that a robust training programme is delivered to employees and agents;
Oversee and support the delivery of training initiatives;
Design and deliver training to relevant groups of employees.


Must have technical/professional qualifications:

Qualified as a minimum to degree level equivalent;
Professional qualification in AML required;
Higher relevant degrees will be advantageous;
Higher relevant specialist qualifications in e.g. risk or compliance management will be an advantage;
Comprehensive and specialist knowledge of financial crime and financial services legislation in South Africa and on the African continent;
Sound understanding of compliance and risk management principles.


Desired experience:

Minimum of 10 years' AML and financial crime specialist experience in financial services with relevant compliance and risk management experience;
Deep knowledge of Financial Services, Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-bribery and Anti-Financial Crime legislation;
Telecommunications and mobile financial services experience will be advantageous.


Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

Significant experience in anti-money laundering in the financial services and mobile financial services industry including development, implementation, and management of AML and anti-financial crime compliance and risk frameworks;
Self-starter and self-motivated who is able to prioritize and manage multiple work streams;
Ability to present authoritatively to internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate protection of Vodacom's interests, whilst concentrating on the issues that really matter;
Knowledge and practical experience of implementing global AML and payments standards such as FATF, 4 th/5th MLD, PSD
