What you will do

FCA is the accounting department within the Volvo Group, responsible for financial compliance in terms of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). As the Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for meeting all Income Tax and Value Added Tax reporting requirements.


Job Objectives:


  • Ensure compliance with South African tax legislation, internal control objectives, accounting standards and financial policies and procedures.
  • Be technically proficient in corporate tax, Indirect taxes and Transfer Pricing.
  • Preparation and submission of the Income tax (including provision tax) and VAT returns.
  • Take ownership of Requests for Information and Tax Audits conducted by SARS in terms of the Tax Administration Act.
  • Assist with timeous reporting to the:
  • Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) in terms of the FIC Act; and
  • Statistics South Africa.
  • Stay abreast of changes in legal regulations and the impact on tax (including indirect taxes) arrangements, monitor the same and take appropriate actions.
  • Liaison for third party stakeholders (e.g. SARS, FIC, Stats SA, external auditors and third party consultants).
  • Support stakeholders across the organisation with tax related queries and resolve highly complex tax related concerns.
  • Work in close collaboration with Volvo Group Tax.
  • Compute Transfer pricing and Thin Capitalising for the legal entity.
  • Ensure all relevant transferpricing and thin capitalisation documentation is in place in accordance with the group requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with Group Tax and the Chief Accountant on corporate tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing and thin capitalisation concerns to deliver accurate and timely reporting and compliance.
  • Constantly monitor thin capitalisation and liaise with Group Treasury, Chief Accountant, and the Transactional Manager on the legal entities ability to pay dividends to shareholders and request group company loans.
  • Oversight and ownership of tax related financial statement items and complete tax related balance sheet reconciliations (BSR).
  • Align reporting with relevant chapters of IFRS guidelines as appropriate and all changes to be communicated to the local business in cooperation with Volvo Group Accounting and Corporate Tax.
  • Assist the Chief Accountant to coordinate and facilitate external audits and finalising the Annual Financial Statements.
  • Any other duties that may be requested by your manager.

Qualification & Job Experience

  • Tax Practitioner.
  • 3+ experience in a tax analyst role overseeing the full tax portfolio of a legal entity.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
  • Income Tax Act, 58 of 196
  • Value-Added Tax Act, 89 of 199
  • Customs and Excise Act, 91 of 196
  • Tax Administration Act, 28 of 2011.
  • Good understanding of:
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) specific focus on tax related standards.
  • Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 38 of 2001.
